Senate sidetracks move to repeal ethanol credit

WASHINGTON – The Senate refused to kill a $5 billion annual subsidy for ethanol on Tuesday, backing continued government aid for a Farm Belt-based industry over deficit reduction in an era of record red ink.

The 40-59 vote, far short of the 60 needed to advance the measure, reflected regional as well as partisan differences, a split among Republicans — and anything but the final word on the issue.

"We continue to spend money that we don't have on things that we don't need," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., a prominent deficit hawk who led the effort to eliminate the subsidy immediately.

A lot of farmers have set themselves up to reap subsidy benefits for years to come.

Bottom line....we're feeding our cars some very expensive cr**....

Is it any wonder why we’re bankrupt?

Both parties have butchered America.

Let people starve so we can divert food stocks and farm lands to fuel, while we let the most economical and efficient sources of energy sit under ground.

Only makes sense to a liberal.

In my personal business dealings with farmers, I have found that they will lead you believe that they are the purest, salt-of-the earth true Conservatives representing the heartland of America.

That is until you raise the subject to ag subsidies.
Then all of a sudden they switch gears to gimmegimmegimmegimmegimmegimme.

I was amazed by that very fact. I was so surprised too. Sidearm toting, tobacco chewing, die hard religious Christian folk. Salt of the Earth.

I couldn't believe when I found out they were Dems. WTH?

Do you know what Dems represent? Homosexuality, Abortion, Welfare, basically Communism, they praise and revere every freakin abomination under the sun...How could you vote for these people?

Then I found out they were not voting for any of this stuff or for any Liberals. They were voting for the Democrat party of the 50’s back when Democrats were solid patriotic Americans.

They didn't get the memo. Amazing.

I think Obama has pulled the curtain on the 'modern' Democrats. Can't picture these guys voting for a Radical Black Muslim Dictator, again.

Is it a direct subsidy or is it a lower federal tax on ethanol vs. oil?

That’s what I’m wondering. I’m opposed to all energy subsidies, but I don’t have any problem with tax credits. Tax credits are basically the same as tax cuts.
