Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen took to Twitter Monday to defend his slamming of actor Sean Penn, an advocate of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Guillen, a Venezuela native, criticized Penn for his Huffington Post column last week in which the actor said the socialist leader was not a dictator.

The Oscar winner added that the US Government was lying about Chavez and said calling him a dictator is "defamation, not only to President Chavez, but also to the majority of Venezuelan people, poor people who have elected him president time and time again."

Gotta love Ozzie. I probably don’t agree with him about some things, but I think he very much appreciates the opportunities America gave him, and he was, in my view, a helluva shortstop. He’s so right. Sean Penn is an idiot.

And here I've been calling for Ozzie to be fired for the last two years. Ozzie you've changed my mind!!!

Ozzie and I kinda have a bad history. The guy does not like me mainly because I interrupted a conversation he was having with the head of marketing for the White Sox. And I've been on his case for starring at women in the stands than watching the damn game. But he got us to 4 1/2 back, I can live with that. If we are 3 games out by the All Star Break the White Sox will win the division CAN'T WAIT FOR CUBS SERIES!!!

GO WHITE SOX!!!

And thank you Ozzie for standing up to dictators!!! Too bad the (#1 supposed White Sox fan Zero won't stand up to dictators...)

He's also quite entertaining here in Chicago. He will tell fans to F off if he feels like it. Quite funny.

His kids are obnoxious loud mouths, they get that from Ozzie. We have a bad reputation on the South Side but I really don't care, nor does any other White Sox fan. We played second fiddle to the Cubs until 2005 when we actually won a title, now people aren't going to Wrigley!!! :D

Bad news for me, I have yet to go to a Sox game above 60 degrees and I have Season Tickets!!!

Back when Ozzie was still playing at short for the Sox, my sister and her family were vacationing in Florida in the spring, and stopped by the White Sox camp in Sarasota, which was still the site of their training facility at that time.

It was raining when they got to the ball field, and as my nephews came by to ask for autographs, all of the ball players rushed back to the clubhouse, pretty much ignoring them, except for one: Ozzie Guillen, who stood there in the rain signing their cards.

I was really down on Ozzie a number of years back when I saw him in a PR picture with Chavez, but he’s pretty much redeemed himself with me now.

I was there Saturday when Lilibridge leaped at the fence and pulled back a sure homer that would have given the A’s the win - a whale of a game. And yeah, it was a tad cold then too.

Love Ozzie - and he’s got a South Sider’s vocabulary, even though one can seldom understand exactly what he’s saying!

Who you gonna believe - - Venezuelan native Ozzie Guillen or Hollywood simpleton Sean Penn?

Don't live in Chicago, but saw a lot of White Sox games in my life. Used to go to McCuddy’s before going to the old Comiskey. Will always be a White Sox fan first and foremost. Saw a lot of exciting games as a kid back in the Bill Veck era, when they had huge offensive firepower but would lose games 14 to 12.

I know exactly what you mean about the South Side. To me, the spirit that is Chicago burns bright in the neighborhoods, not in the Gold Coast. Wrigley for awhile became a fashionable place to go, even if you didn't care squat about baseball. It was a better place when Ernie said “Let's play two”. It got tiresome to hear some North Siders look down their nose at White Sox fans and the South Side.

I can remember going to games back in the ‘50’s when one could pick up the pungeant aroma of the stockyards when the wind was blowing the wrong way.

Also worked a couple of games as an Andy Frain usher back then, both at Comiskey (or “Kaminsky”, to quote our Dear Leader) and at Wrigley. I still recall one game in the ‘60’s, when Dave Nicholson (who was pretty much useless most of the time) cleared the upper deck with an incredible homer.

I was at Buerhle’s no-hitter in ‘07. Cold, foggy, drizzly - and GREAT!

Very Cool. Was that when ‘no neck Williams’ was playing?

Not sure (after a couple of decades, a lot of the players tend to blend together), but I think Williams was later, maybe early 70’s. And more importantly, I can’t remember if No-Neck was the guy who blew off his thumb firing a mortar during what I believe was a National Guard exercise during the off-season. It was either him, or some other Sox outfielder of about the same era.

My next door neighbors are from Caracas. Last week they took a vacation to Miami. While going through the airport, they said they ran into several old friends from Venezuela. They were all fleeing and leaving everything behind like cars, apartments, houses because they can’t sell them. There are no buyers.

They told me it made them sick. That it reminded them of when people fled Cuba when Castro took over.

None of this is being reported here in the MSM, but it is real and it is happening.

A few months ago, his mother barely escaped a kidnapping attempt. The robbers stole her car but she’s OK and now in Italy.

The ones that can get out are leaving in droves. And all the Venezuelans that I’ve met believe in capitalism.

Awesome post!!! Brent Lillebridge is one of my favorite players. He is a gamer! Nice guy off the field and good to talk to. He isn't pompous, we really don't have anyone like that. I go to every "Picnic in the Park" where it is fans + players / family and the only jerk in the entire time I've been going was David Wells in 2001.

Lillebridge is a class act and I love to see him play everyday he is a difference maker and we WILL make the playoffs.

And to impy, FReepmail me so I can tell ya what games are available.
