Road Rage in Russia
Foreign Policy ^ | 6/14/11 | JULIA IOFFE

It was a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon when Lena Miro (the pop-lit writer Elena Mironenko) was wheeling her way home, happy and sated after a Goya exhibit and some stuffed cabbage at a chic Moscow cafe. "When all of a sudden, out of nowhere, a vile old woman with a massive bag on wheels threw herself under my car," Miro wrote on her blog. "I almost knocked the bowling pin down." Miro was rattled, but then she had a soothing thought: "It occurred to me: I could've run over this scum (the world would only benefit from this), but to give myself a serious headache over some old c*** was a little silly."

And then she got to thinking: what the f***. Why are these people even here, in her city? Why not impose an entry fee to Moscow -- say, $200. "Then we'll have beautiful people driving around in beautiful cars, not collective farmers in their farting wrecks, or office schmucks in their miserable Passats," she mused. "And anyway: let these office drones take the metro to their kunstkameras, or, even better, have them go somewhere far away. Maybe Kolyma" -- the remote site of some of the most notorious Soviet-era gulags. "Let them pan for gold. That way, we'd at least get some use out of their pointless existence."

WARNING... Some profanity at source link.

Anyway, you definitely get the impression that the elite in Russia are not all that different from the elite in America.

Socialism does that to a culture. It’s not easy to recover from decades of institutionalized inhumanity.

Actually, I thought the USSR and communism was supposed to have cured the Russian psyche of this sort of attitude-—guess it was rooted pretty deeply. It was the same under the Czars, under the Politburo and now; must be genetic.

co-incidentally; I see the same sort of class-ism in the present day Liberals here.

the Russian cruelty streak and contempt toward “lesser” humans existed before socialism or communism. ditto with China. Japan. Germany. Zimbabwe. Cambodia. Korea. India. the list goes on

while there are exceptions to every blanket statement, Russians show at best indifference or at worst, cruelty or contempt toward those they consider inferior. Racially. Socially. America, as a new society, is a true exception to much of the rest of the world. Although liberalism is infecting us with the euro mindset. And some liberal whackos like Ayers and Anita Dunn show their willingness to even tip off the edge toward admiring or even emulating those who would indifferently murder their philosophical and social opposites to rid their world of impure or inferior thought

Communism and socialism don't cause these traits, they serve the people who possess them

was wheeling her way home, happy and sated after a Goya exhibit

I saw a Goya exhibit at the MFA in Boston about twenty years ago. The then-wife and I didn't think Goya's works were all that happy and sating.

Reading the article, however, I can understand why Ms. Mironenko enjoyed Goya.

Moscow's "Queen of Mean". I wonder if she has a dog that will inherit her estate?

Czarist tyranny was a little different in that Orthodoxy was still intact in Russia-while the Romanovs were on the throne. Common Christian decency held even in the most poor and backward areas.

The Czars had a duty toward and a paternal interest and concern for the serfs, albeit NOT enough to actually FREE them, but to regard them with compassion. Only the most mentally deranged and brutal psychopaths actually victimized the serfs.

Communist atheists were another and different system of tyranny for the Russian. The class system the aristocracy and church were abandoned. In their place, was the mass of undifferentiated being ...now ALL equal and the same! This mentality took the place of Czarist/Christian rule. No humanism was tolerated...the STATE was everything.

Calm down; it’s just a schtick. She’s a Russian Anne Coulter, being outrageous and provocative because that’s her persona.

You’re correct. And the normal people are no different than us either.....watch this man take a Yamaha R1 through Moscow traffic at 180 MPH or so....

I like this kind of Moscow road rage.

Cops, motorists and pedetstians captured a drank hit&run guy and kicking the crap out of him.

Street justice with government involved:)
