I guess this piece is part of the MSM suckup to Bachmann to keep Palin out of the race?

I'm sure more of this will be coming. Hopefully our side won't join in...

The Bachmann Backlash Begins
Jonathan S. Tobin 06.15.2011 - 2:54 PM

For months, Rep. Michele Bachmann has hovered on the margins of the consciousness of the mainstream media. But after her breakthrough appearance at Monday night’s New Hampshire Republican presidential debate, it was a given that she would start getting the same treatment that was accorded the last religious conservative woman to make it onto the national stage. As Michelle Goldberg’s hit piece in today’s Daily Beast illustrates, the effort to demonize Bachmann is in full swing and she can expect no more mercy from liberals than Sarah Palin got.

The highlight of Goldberg’s piece is undoubtedly her account of what happened when to supporters of gay marriage ambushed her in a rest room after a 2005 town hall meeting when Bachmann was a Minnesota state senator. The two, a lesbian and a nun, claim Bachmann screamed for help when the two buttonholed her in a lady’s room. Apparently we’re supposed to think Bachmann is a screwball for feeling threatened (if indeed, that’s what actually happened) when hostile strangers in a small space cornered her with no one else around.

Goldberg’s biggest problem is, of course, the fact that the religiously conservative Bachmann is a longtime opponent of gay marriage and she makes the most out of the fact that the congresswoman’s gay stepsister broke with her over the issue.

We can also expect to hear a great deal the influence of one of her law professors, John Eidsmoe who appears to something of a theocrat as well as advocating some erroneous and extreme ideas about both slavery and the Civil War.

The fact that she is an evangelical will be enough to incite liberals to blast her as an extremist especially Jewish liberals, who will not be impressed by the fact that Bachmann is not only a strong supporter of Israel but made her first trip there when she was a teenager with a Christian youth group.

While all this can be woven together into a narrative that makes Bachmann look like a nutcase, the problem with such efforts is that unlike Palin, after more than a decade as a legislator, the congresswoman can’t be dismissed as a political flash in the pan or an empty suit. She’s got a long paper trail of her own as well as an impressive education and work resume. As even her foes in Congress and in Minnesota politics have conceded, she’s sharp as a tack and a formidable foe.

Now that she’s had a chance to exhibit her talents on the national stage, her detractors are going to have to do more than mention the fact that she looked into the wrong camera during her response to President Obama’s State of the Union speech and committed a gaffe when she thought the Revolutionary War started in Concord, New Hampshire that than Concord, Massachusetts. Which means that slurs about her religious faith, her political beliefs and the usual snarky stuff that is used against female politicians (her looks, clothes, hair and makeup) will be trotted out. Goldberg’s piece is the first but it won’t be the last of this genre, especially if as now seems likely, her campaign gathers momentum.

Her spiritual influences and advisors explicitly advocate theocracy

I would love to see some evidence for that. I seriously doubt that anyone who could be considered and influence or an advisor to Bachmann would advocate theocracy anytime this side of the Second Coming.

If Bachmann becomes the Republican President/VP candidate, LSM will try to destroy her. The question is: will she be eaten alive, or will she coast through those venomous accusations?

Yes it has. I just heard Miller and O’Reilly saying that Palin has taken so much heat that to start the same destructive hits on Bachmann would obviously reveal the MO of the left, and that they may not do it.

Seems they are going to make her out to be worse than Palin, or, in my books, better than Palin.

As I said on another thread Bachmann got one day of decent coverage because she performed well at the debate. I’m not surprised she’s being trashed and I’m sure it will only get worse. The MSM hates her as much as they hate Palin. And if they think she might have a shot at the VP slog they’ll for sure do whatever they can to destroy her. Disgusting.

I always love how so-called “progressives” work. They can never actually argue with people, particularly consistent conservatives. The only thing they can do is label someone and then deride them. Confront them in a legitimate debate? They just cannot do it.

We wonder why all these stupid debates allow for 60-90 seconds (and now a new low of 30). It’s just enough time to attack someone and spout off platitudes, and almost never enough to explain a position using some decent reasoning. The Demorats and RINOs just cannot deal with that level of scrutiny.

Alex Pareene left GAWKER but their stench lingers behind him ~ he was a big part of the problem. They're the folks with the Rep. Lee "scandal" ~ yet they actually justify Rep. Weiner's behavior ~ presumably right down to soliciting underage girls for "congress".

They also got heavily involved in creating false stories about Christine O'Donnell running for the Senate in Delaware. That was the one still cited by some Freepers of questionable intelligence ~ to the effect that a guy claimed a one night stand with her. BTW, she's currently working a complaint against the old biddy at CREW and its anticipated she might get that ol'gal kicked out of the practice of law in that state.

Alex here is as bad as the worst of them.

Watching this guy work and seeing who his friends are it's probable he will die of several STDs before the 2012 campaign gets underway.

Unless there's something we really need to know I think we'd be best served by NOT dishing any of this guy's SH*T UP.

He's exceedingly evil ~ part of the mob Ann Coulter writes about. Interesting that on his way down the tubes from Gawker he ended up at Salon. Tells you something about how smarmy that whole crowd has become.

I tried tracking down his residential address ~ without luck. These guys are all hiding ~ including that McGinniss guy who moved in next door to Sarah.

You can't tell me he did that just 'cause it was for rent ~ he had a suicide belt or something ~ maybe grenades around. He must have gotten cold feet ~ BTW, he's my PRIME candidate for the guy who tried to burn down Sarah's church a couple of years ago. He's crazy. He hangs with crazy people. He not only exhibits full blown bi-polar disorder, he appears totally detached from real people ~ no social skills ~ may well qualify for description as borderline personality disorder.

I wouldn't get too near him.

“She will play ball with Wall Street? How?”

Good question. I seem to recall that she was one of those that actually voted against TARP. She is also opposed to, and in the end I would bet my life will not vote for the debt ceiling increase. She is consistently fighting in the trenches of the Capitol for all the right causes.

I love Sarah Palin, and she’d be my first choice for POTUS. But if she chooses not to run, Bachmann is not a bad alternative. I think people are going to have a hard time making the case that Bachmann is somehow not conservative enough or is some fraud out there to “steal Sarah’s thunder.” Michelle is the real deal. She’s a genuine conservative, unlike Obomney, T-paw, and most of the others. If Sarah’s not in it, Bachmann would be a great choice.

The democrats and their media supporters use the tactics of a sleazy defense lawyer. The lawyer doesn’t need to prove someone else committed the crime. He just needs to create a reasonable doubt about the defendant’s guilt.

Often that is accomplished by impugning the integrity of witnesses. The same tactic used by democrats.

They both work to create doubt about a person by throwing out false accusations and comments, then they just keep pounding and pounding those thoughts.

In the case of the sleazy lawyer, he hopes that eventually the jury will start to think there must be something to the accusations because of the sheer repitition. - after all, they think, would they have heard it so much if there wasn’t some basis in truth?

In the case of the democrats it is the voters confidence they want to destry with their unfounded accusations and comment.

They ridiculed president Bush so much that people lost confidence and turned against him. They have been using the same tactic on Sarah Palin since 2008.

Now they are turning their attack machine on Bachmann.

(However many she has at a time, foster kids are a good way to make some tax-free cash from the Minnesota government, and they're not even Bachmann's sole source of free government cash.)

It's not "free government cash" if you are providing a service for that cash. Foster parents are paid by the government to care for foster children.

It's a formula that's worked for Left and its flying monkeys in the media for at least 40 years. Why do you think CNN, PBS and other Lefty media are so anxious to host political debates? PBS pushed it's phony image of "impartiality" for years and got away with it. It's a sham.

This is a new meme of the libs. If they can’t declare a Pubbie candidate too stupid to breathe, they’ll label them theocrats. Naturally these theocrats if elected will try to establish some sort of religious state, and throw all non-believers into prison. Everyone will have to read the bible daily, attend church services on Sunday, and listen to Jimmy Swaggart. Certain stupid libs actually believe this.
