How amusing to watch Democrats wring their hands over what they can do to get businesses to create jobs, when one of the biggest job killers is the minimum wage they keep hiking.
Recall that it was Democrats who raised the federal wage floor a whopping $2.10 an hour in the middle of the recession. The record 41% increase has led to record unemployment among young people, especially black teens.
Congress started ratcheting up the minimum wage from $5.15 an hour in mid-2007, arguing it would help abate poverty. But retailers looking to slash costs eliminated low-skilled, entry-level jobs rather than pay the mandated increases.
Now 1.5 million fewer teens are working. Last year's unemployment rate for workers ages 16 to 19 shot up to 26% from 2007's 15%.
As for black teens, their joblessness soared to a record 43% after the final raise to $7.25 took effect in mid-2009. It helped put more than half of young black men out of work a first.

The Great Society has been far more damaging to blacks than the KKK.
The black family structure has been destroyed, the rate of bastard child birth is 70%+, and the culture of poverty, immorality, govt dependence and criminality is deeply entrenched after only two generations.
Young, black, uneducated, illiterate, chip on the shoulder about ‘whitey’, with a criminal record. Wouldn’t expect employment from all that.
THE economy is racist?
I hate to say it but too many young black males are unemployed because they are, quite simply, unemployable. Poorly educated and lacking a strong work ethic, they'll remain unemployed regardless of the economy. They will be standing on the sidelines, pulling their pants up, and watching the world pass them by.
The commies NEED mis-educated poor black kids to be unemployed.
From this article it appears that all kids are having a problem with employment because of the hike, but they are more worried about the black kids, White kids do not mean much to these folks.
I dont think this article is completely accurate in its correlation between jobs growth and minimum wage. A good way is to look at a country where there are different min wages, such as Canada.
Ontario: 10.25 $/hr -> unemployment 8.3%
Quebec: 9.65 $/hr -> unemployment 7.1%
Manitoba: 9.5 $/hr -> unemplyoment 5.3%
BC: 8.75 $/hr -> unemployment 7.4%
Sask: 8.8 $/hr -> unemployment 4.9%
I could go on but basically the correlation, based on multiple areas doesnt really fly. And that graph is black teens employment? Well obviously thats going to be a weird graph, not all black teens NEED to work minimum wage jobs, if they need to work at all. Baseless.
Apologies, the minimum wage in Saskatchewan is 9.25 not 8.8.
I don’t think you can compare this with the US
as they wait impatiently for their next War On Poverty check.
You are probably right actually. The more I thought about it, a gradual increase probably would not have been a problem. But an increase of ~40% suddenly must have put alot of employers in a position where they need to let a few go to offset the giant increase. I dont think a gradual increase would have had an impact, or atleast as much of one.
Remember, American Somoa was expempted from the law. Also remember that the husband of a certain California Dem is a major stockholder in Starkist Tuna, a company that runs their canning operation in American Somoa.
The first sentence describes the preferred hire of a major electronics recylcer and reseller only branch on the east coast here in SC.
Bingo. The commies need liberal-arts and Crapola Studies college graduates to be unemployed, too.
No... sadly they will just end up killing one another.

You mean she of the 60plus percent increase in her net worth when everyone else saw theirs plummet??
As long as Republicans hold the House, inflation will eventually made minimum wage worthless. Nobody was paying kids $5.15 per hour back in ‘07.
It’s the fault of obama’s white half.
As I’ve talked with my own bosses, minimum wage and overtime laws are one of the most anti-business actions out there. Without such rules, we’d be able to put more money to our supplies (which are going up with gas), as well as give more hours and pay to the more productive workers (I’m currently their highest paid worker, and even though they consider me their best, they have to keep my hours down because they can’t afford to pay me too much or give me overtime).
And someone needs to come up with a graph that shows how minimum wage has affected the actual buying power of money, as it’s laughable to listen to those who claim minimum wage is needed to allow people to afford “the necessities”, when I know that it’s doing nothing but making us even more poor.
