MINNEAPOLIS To the liberal activists gathered for the annual Netroots Nation conference, Wisconsin is the center of the political universe.
Several panels on the first day of the annual progressive gathering focused on whats happening in neighboring Wisconsin: lessons from the push by Gov. Scott Walker to curtail collective bargaining, the takeaways from the failure to unseat a conservative state Supreme Court justice and the upcoming recall elections.
The Republican wave that gave the GOP control of the House and state capitols around the country has galvanized thousands of activists.
Wisconsin is Ground Zero right now, said Adam Green, the co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. If we win these elections in Wisconsin, it will have huge ripple effects. This is seriously where we need to frontload our efforts.
A senior campaign director for MoveOn.org, Daniel Mintz, said he hasnt seen as much political energy since the 2008 presidential election or the run-up to the Iraq war.
Republican overreach has been very useful to us, both in Wisconsin and nationally, Mintz said. So when we look back in a year or two years or five years, and think about where this all started, it started in Madison.
A Democracy for America spokeswoman told activists that her group will spend $1.5 million on the recall effort. She announced plans to hire 35 staffers and to focus on winning in three key districts, which would empower Democrats to block Republicans from passing legislation.

Labor groups continue to play an outsized role at the conference. Six big labor unions are partnering with DFA and PCCC to bus attendees to Hudson, Wisc., so they can go door-knocking on behalf of a union activist challenging a Republican incumbent this Sunday.

They all jumped in their un torched cars in Vancouver and are headed your way!

NUtroots Nation Alert!
Hopefully someone will post pics so we can all have some good laffs
This event used to be called “Yearly Kos”. Why did they change it to “Netroots Nation”? Aren’t they proud of their affiliation with Daily Kos and the radicals over there??????? Are they trying to disguise how liberal they are? After all to the casual observer ,the netroots could include any political leanings of people on the internet.
I just want everybody to know that Netroots Nation is Yearly Kos, and they are an assortment of liberal radical kooks and crackpots. Truth in advertising is a good thing.
In Wisconsin, the Left got their asses kicked last November and have lost every fight since. The failed turnout for Kloppenburg and lousy PR stunts don’t bode well for any recall efforts.

“Democracy for America”? What a load of Obama.
i hope your right but i gotta tell you this pisses me off- where is the GOP alinskying these d-bags??? these nutroots have a history of anti-semitism (see moveon) yet the GOP never calls them out on it....they constantly have rat politicians speak at their conferences and the GOP never calls them out...
meanwhile we are called racist because we are Tea Partiers and the GOP establishment runs far away....just another example of the GOP fighting like little girls IMO....
The website for the re-election campaign of Sheila Harsdorf, the Republican state senator mentioned in the article, who’s under attack by the Nutroots/Goonion/Dhimmicrat recall campaign, is http://harsdorf.com. There’s a donations page there, of course.
I’ve been in western WI a few times in the past week. Not much recall stuff floating around. Just some home made “finish the recall” signs in a yard or two.
I take it the DNC and Unions are bailing on that as well??
Hopefully the RNC/Tea party/local pub party will defend him and support those running against the 3 dems.
loosing control of the senate now won’t be such a big deal in the budget deal. but it gives them NY23 type fodder to say “we’re gonna win, we’re gonna win!” in 2012.
Not surprisingly, Kapanke has an election website that’s been recycled as a recall site also: http://www.kapankeforsenate.com/
Having numerous relatives and friends on the western border of Wisconsin, I can tell you that most of them are NOT FAMILIAR with what really is happening in Madistan. Yes, the do get a smattering of “news highlites” but the printed news and TV they see and watch is all about “Minnesota” and what is happening across the river to their west.
Maybe, just maybe there are enough of them who frequent Free Republic and similar forums to get a better cross-section of the REAL story.
I'm about to head out the door for Hudson, and it will be interesting to see what I can glean about the attitude there.
