ARLINGTON, Va. -- Authorities found al Qaeda-related statements, a backpack containing ammonium nitrate, and spent 9mm shells Friday after stopping a suspicious vehicle close to the Pentagon and arresting a man, ABC's "Good Morning America" reported.

Pentagon Police arrested one person Friday and closed several roads around the US Department of Defense headquarters after officers stopped a suspicious vehicle and discovered a backpack believed to contain ammonium nitrate, FOX News Channel reported.

The vehicle was stopped about 6:00am local time Friday. Police were searching for one, or possibly two, other people who fled the vehicle when it was stopped by police, local news channel WRC-TV reported. A source told FOX News Channel that the backpack was found outside of the vehicle, and that the arrested man was a naturalized US citizen who came to the US from Ethiopia.

The car -- which remained parked in bushes off Washington Boulevard -- was cleared by authorities, however the backpack, believed to contain ammonium nitrate, was not.

A Pentagon Police spokesman said that an explosives team was called in to investigate the vehicle. The FBI was also involved in the investigation.

On Monday, a highway ramp near the Pentagon was closed while police investigated reports of a suspicious package in a car. No explosive device was found on that occasion.

Friday's road closures caused major traffic congestion on roads around the Pentagon.

Almost sounds like a manufactured event complete with an idiot suspect.

Is Obama feeling more paranoid today about him being arrested for treason or some other threat coming at him?
Maybe he needs a diversion from the Libya events?

Sounds like a fry run.

Even if the knapsack was filled with ammonium nitrate, it would have done a fairly insignificant amount of damage.

Certainly not the sort of damage the Amish terrorists would have been looking for.

Police were searching for one, or possibly two, other people who fled the vehicle...

What the heck is the officer's handgun for? Decoration? Needed: a fleeing felon statute. Make fleeing a felony. They run, they die. < /rant >

Ethiopian immigrant is interesting. Kind of outside the norm at least.

Ethiopia has long fought against islam and has some of the oldest continuous Christian and Jewish communities in the world.

The feds are allowing thousands of muslims to become citizens while we “kill them over there before we have to kill them over here”

If I didnt know better I would swear the feds are trying to destroy America.

Yep, they have a sizable and growing muslim population.

Bet they wouldn’t give mohammad protection again if he showed up on their doorstep.

“Naturalized American.” Why are we continuing to admit foreign Muslims into our country? Do we have a death wish?
