Punish those who tore the heart out of Vancouver
National Post ^ | Jun 17, 2011 | Rex Murphy

Posted on 06/17/2011 12:34:29 PM PDT by USFRIENDINVICTORIA

Those clod poles, ne’er-do-wells, vandals, punks, thugs and assorted clueless dolts who smacked people around, piled on others, fought with and sought to injure police, set fire to cars, broke into stores, trashed and looted at will in Vancouver Wednesday night — all are a pathetic pack of cowardly destructive losers. {snip}

There aren’t any excuses for what they did. None. None. At. All. If these whiny, pampered, useless sacks of skin even try to claim it was because their team lost, then they haven’t got the intelligence of a ball of mud. {SNIP} The damage was one thing. The insolence is altogether another. Consider what they did.

These vulgarians defecated on the reputation of one of Canada’s first cities. They hurt the stores and the employment of honest city-caring people in Vancouver. They sprayed dirt and worse into the face of every half decent sports fan in all of North America. They turned what was — even with the loss — a moment of intense national interest and pride into a world-class embarrassment, an ugly, bloody, ignorant and arrogant stain on the city that hosted the Olympics.

{snip}

Riots should not be “written-off” as pranks. Mayhem shouldn’t be passed over as the “actions of a violent few.” Tearing the heart out of a city, ripping up its stores, despoiling its reputation, and setting its citizens for a while in a state of fear — should draw the just, angry and full attention of the state. Vancouver deserved better Wednesday night. {SNIP}

The rioters are a third-rate band of losers who still managed to cast a shadow on what should have been — win or lose — a wonderful night for all the country. Everyone in Canada who loves hockey and Canada despises these people. {SNIP}

He forgot the worst.

They managed to make Canadians look almost as bad as Americans.

Look carefully at the video and the photos. A vast number of these a-holes weren't what I would call hockey fans. They were anarchy fans with only one thing in mind.....and it wasn't a failed quest for Lord Stanley's Cup.

The cops should check the photos and start rounding them up. But the Canadian cops are pu$$!3s for the most part. They won't do much.

Do Canadians have the cajones to put these losers to work cleaning and repairing and providing free labor as part of their punishment?

I’d give them 500 hours of community service or public caning- or both.

Will anything serious happen to the rioters, or will they get off easy? Also, there an update on that guy who tried to stop the looting, and got the tar stomped out of him. Is he okay?

From what I read yesterday, Vancouver is very similar to san fran, their PC and tolerance has produced this kind of climate. They brought it on themselves.

Yep. The Northwest is chock full of those types -- in Eugene, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver. Far-left loons. But usually they let loose during economic conferences, not after sporting events.

It’s a real pity that the staid tradition of shooting rioters has been lost.

As a post-modern society governed by the PC multi-culti crowd, Canada has just as many youth (and many more dipsh*t extreme-leftists) who will be happy to smash windows at the drop of a hat.

I put blame on the police. I watched the proceedings for several hours on CTV, and noted the typical bureaucratic thinking that is typical of union-dominated civil servants. Very poor planning - 500 police were deployed for a crowd of 100,000+, for a very important event with a history of violence.

Secondly, when they realized things went sideways, they simply withdrew for 3+ hours, giving a few rioters complete control over Georgia and Granville for the whole time.

Finally, the politicians went on TV and gave us the typical propoganda on how the police were all "heros."

Just looking at the headline I thought he was talking about Boston Bruins and/or their fans.

It remains to be seen, whether due punishment is meted out. There's a big hue and cry for rounding up and jailing the offenders. At the same time, the usual leftards are already writing letters to the editor saying we're all to blame. We must study the root causes. We have to "empower" the underclasses, so they don't act up in the future (conveniently overlooking the fact that many of the rioters were over-privilidged, spoiled, self-entitled students from the suburbs). I don't hold out a lot of hope for a good outcome.

A quick Google search turns up 6 separate riots associated with Stanley Cup final or semi-final wins and losses, 5 in Canada and 1 in Buffalo, NY.

Where have all the cossacks gone?
Long time slashing
Where have all the cossacks gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the cossacks gone?
Reds have zapped them every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

There are similarities. Vancouver’s Mayor Moonbeam would fit in quite well in San Fransisco. He’s likely most responsible for the police being very reluctant to act. Had the police been more forceful, they would have been investigated and punished. That’s what’s happening to the police, who worked on the G20 conference in Toronto last year.
