Now that hurts. ;-) I hope to see retribution on the ice next year.

Thanks for the info. I watched some of it live, and I was struck by the passivity of the police. There didn’t appear to be any fear of arrest on the part of the rioters, either. I hope they make examples out of some of the most violent offenders, but as you said the odds look bleak.

I’ve heard them called “Canuckleheads”. I suppose there’s a reason for that.

The proper response would have included 20 or 30 well-armed men, carrying an assortment of 12-gauge automatic shotguns, high-powered 308 carbine rifles, a few 50-cal machine guns, 45 cal pistols and baseball bats (for “up close and personal” work) ...

Rip loose on the a$$holes—then go back and finish off whatever is still moving. Problem fixed.

That is how you deal with this sort of street thug. Wipe them out. That sends the right message to the next bunch of similarly-inclined a$$holes.

“Clod pole” is new to me.

Rex has quite a way with words. The world abounds with clod poles -- we could wear the expression out, if we're not careful.

A “whiff of grapeshot” worked well for Napoleon.

I said early on that a quick application of Rule 308 to the most visible, extreme acting rioters is what was needed. Or, given Canada’s use of the metric system, perhaps we should refer to this as Rule 7.62.

They could also use some Korean shop owner mentality among the citizenry.

Oh, and by the way, I saw some photos that included a number of police mounted on horseback. However, they were not trotting into knots of rioters with 4’ nightsticks swinging and taking care of business, so they were as less-than-optimally-useful as the rest of the police seemed to be.

I have no doubts this same thing could happen America too.

Where do you think they learned it? Though you'll note that in the US, it tends to happen only in the anti-gun liberal cities. I don't think they'd try this stunt in, say, Kennesaw, Georgia or Jackson, Tennessee!

Mounted police - if the both the horses and officers are well trained - are unbelievable at crowd control. Truly awesome.

I suspect they were held in reserve for a last resort.

Ha ha. Ha ha hah!

Riot all you want, Canadians. Nothing will erase the damage we did to you this year and the shame you brought to the game with all your biting and diving theatrics.

The Big, Bad Bruins say hello!

Those Koreans are doing it right. They know how to protect their property. I’d do the same if it happened here.

My daughter lives in Vancouver and says everybody there is aghast at what happened. She says it was the anarchists out in force and the event had been planned long in advance — they just rode on the coattails of the game. Apparently, the morning after, about 20,000 volunteers showed up to clean up the mess left behind by the scum. The anarchists seem to love the NW - Vancouver, Seattle, Portland.

There was no Stanley Cup riot in Buffalo NY in 1999. Wikipedia is wrong on that one.

What will people like that do if they ever have a real reason to be upset and afraid?

Say, if the power goes out for an extended period, and there are no ATMs, gas stations or supermarkets functioning?

If this is how they react to losing a hockey game?

They managed to make Canadians look almost as bad as Americans.

But they're right in there with the Greeks. Just wait until it's like that, all the time, everywhere.
