GENEVA – The United Nations endorsed the rights of gay, lesbian and transgender people for the first time ever Friday, passing a resolution hailed as historic by the U.S. and other backers and decried by African and Muslim countries.

The declaration was cautiously worded, expressing "grave concern" about abuses because of sexual orientation and commissioning a global report on discrimination against gays.

But activists called it an important shift on an issue that has divided the global body for decades, and they credited the Obama administration's push for gay rights at home and abroad.

Leftists at the U.N. making meaningless gestures that will be completely ignored in Muslim-dominated countries and anywhere people are still sane enough to recognize that homosexual behavior is a choice as well as a perversion of human sexuality.

This is in blatant defiance of the convictions of a majority of its members.

I guess even the elites have to deal with their own elites.

Well, maybe this will get Muslim country members bumped off the Human Rights committees.

Meanwhile Syrians are getting gunned down, Iran is building nukes, North Koreans are starving, Hugo Chavez is belligerent - thank god the UN has their priorities straight. :)

Fear not; the impotent UN will only be used with any real force when it is dealing with whites, and they are not the ones inheriting the earth. Demographically, the number of people disgusted by this behavior dwarfs those who aren’t, and the spread is growing...by the second.

“homosexual behavior is a choice as well as a perversion of human sexuality.”

Homosexual behavior is a perversion of human sexuality, but it is not a “choice”. I could never “choose” (under any circumstances) to be a homosexual tomorrow, can you? No heterosexual man is going to say “hmm, I think I choose to go have sex with another man today.”

Homos most likely grow into it due to exposure to homosexuality during their childhood.

And bills such as this only makes it “normal” to be homosexual. I am not for criminalizing homosexual behavior (if they do not harm others), but homosexuals need medical and psychological treatment. If anything, they should get treatment to physically and psychologically suppress their homosexual tendencies.

I've heard and read this argument a million times and I know it seems compelling. However, there is no 'gay gene'. There is likely a proclivity (predisposition) involved but not a genetic compulsion. Much like 'addictive personalities'. That negates the premise that people engaging in homosexual sex have no choice. They do. It may be a hard choice for them to resist but it remains a choice. For those of us who are male heterosexuals it seems illogical that anyone would choose to have sex with another man but if the attraction exists, it can also be denied, just as the attraction to drugs, gambling, etc can be denied. Hence, my rejection of the argument that "they can't help it" and "it's just who they are'. It's who they choose to be.

Many homosexuals do have a sexual encounter with an adult male during their formative years and this can often lead to huge mental issues and a belief by the victim that "I must be gay". Again, a factor but still not an indicator that the person is doing anything more than giving in to a 'feeling' that is imbedded in his psyche. The widespread acceptance and championing of homosexual behavior in the popular culture has, no doubt, increased the prevalence of young men (and women) choosing to declare themselves 'gay'. They aren't 'gay'. They choose to engage in sex with other men and adopt the trappings of 'a gay man' in appearance and mannerisms. Until 1973, the American Psychiatric Association termed homosexuality as a mental disorder, which it is. That was a political decision not one made on a sound medical basis. This allowed homosexual activists to begin 'mainstreaming' their perversion into the culture, including the public schools....and here we are.

I have no interest in pursuing a lengthy exchange on this issue because it can never be resolved, only creates friction and wastes everyone's time. I have studied the issue of 'gays' not having a choice (a conceit that has served them well) and had numerous discussions (in person and online) with those that believe as you do. Nothing changed. However, my opinion is just that, an opinion. I stand by it but don't wish to debate it. I always assume other Freepers will have different opinions on 'hot' issues such as this and that occasionally we'll disagree. So be it.

That "choice" is made every day in prisons. And how is it not a "choice" on the "outside"? Sexual behavior is not an involuntary act.

The UN really seems dedicated to bringing on WWIII, don't they. I thought that declaring Zionism "racism" would have done it, but they amazingly backed off that (although it took sixteen years for them to do it).

Notice that the largest of traditionally "left" countries didn't support it (China abstained; Russia voted against).
