"There is substantial evidence that some of these fires have been caused by people who have crossed our border illegally," McCain, R-Arizona, said Saturday at a press conference. "The answer to that part of the problem is to get a secure border."

You are spot on. The source is the BP; at least, that’s who I’ve heard it from.
I listened to him make the comment on TV on Saturday and nearly fell over. I couldn’t believe he came out and said it.
A a side note, Arizonans are a generous lot. See how we’re sharing our fire with New Mexico.
Colon, Rep or Panama Juan, is at it again.
Hey, I’m in Oregon, and we got no shortage of illegals. I’m amazed the muzzies haven’t tried setting the West ablaze. Just drive up or down I-5, setting fires. The Japanese tried it in WWII...launching balloons carrying incendiaries. Only fatalities in CONUS during the war were some picknicking children that found one of the bombs and detonated it.
Actually, it may be a jobs program. Illegals work on putting out fires. Knew a guy that worked for USFS way back when, He said they’d set fires for this reason.
There is no shortage of illegals anywhere that I have heard of- we had a wide open border for so long and they poured in here by the millions. The border is a little more secure but they are still coming in droves so don’t think there will be a shortage anytime soon.
I think the reason terrorists haven’t thought to set fires in the West is little payoff for them for the difficulty. Most of the West is sparsly populated so even a large fire won’t terrorize that many people. The other issue is because of sparse population everyone knows everyone and it would be real hard for them to not stick out like a sore thumb.
