PRETORIA — Michelle Obama began what officials have billed as her first major overseas trip as US first lady Monday, a visit to South Africa and Botswana focused on young women leaders and the legacy of the anti-apartheid struggle.
She is travelling with her daughters, Malia and Sasha, and her mother, Marian Robinson -- but without her husband, US President Barack Obama.

She’s taking her daughters, her mother, a niece and nephew and who knows how many other members of the Obama tribe with her. On ABC tonight, Diane Sawyer positively gushed about the wonderful Michelle and her travels and her inspiring messages to women all over the world about how she has succeeded as First Lady. The footage ABC included showing all the wonderously happy highlights of oversees dignitaries meeting the gracious Michelle came directly from the White House website. It was enough to make the viewer puke. I can imagine the vicious comments Nancy Reagan or Laura Bush would have gotten if they had gone overseas on yet another trip at the taxpayers expense.

Michelle wants to get the trips in while the getting is good. She doesn’t think Obama will be re-elected.
