Texas Tells Feds: Shove Your Light Bulb Ban

State lawmakers have passed a bill that allows Texans to skirt federal efforts to promote more efficient light bulbs, which ultimately pushes the swirled, compact fluorescent bulbs over the 100-watt incandescent bulbs many grew up with. The measure, sent to Gov. Rick Perry for consideration, lets any incandescent light bulb manufactured in Texas - and sold in that state - avoid the authority of the federal government or the repeal of the 2007 energy independence act that starts phasing out some incandescent light bulbs next year. "Let there be light," state Rep. George Lavender,

Wrong state? Heck we are on the front lines! I think Texas comes almost all the way up to Naperville anyway. Conservatives should be moving here to IL to join the battle. We’ve got the libs on the run and they know their days are numbered. It’s time to gear up! It started here and it will be finished here.

I screwed a compact bulb into a light socket for my basement steps a couple of months ago. It has already burned out. I turn the light on when I go to the basement to do laundry or when I leave through the basement garage. I turn it off when I’m not on the stairs. The useless things can’t take the frequent on/off cycles. They burn out. The box says to use them only where you can leave them turned on for an extended period of time.

My question—how is it saving energy when you have to leave the d—n thing on so it won’t burn out prematurely? An incandescent bulb can be turned off and on and lasts longer than Obama bulbs. Ergo, it saves energy when you can turn it off when you no longer need it. So, what do I use to light my stairs when I can no longer get incandescent bulbs? This country is being run by fools. No doubt about it.

Beware the poison pill: does the bill allow sales only of bulbs manufactured in Texas? If so, are there any companies left there that manufacture real light bulbs?

How many EnviroNazis does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Only one but it takes an entire ER to get it out.

“Texas will become a light bulb exporter to flea markets all over the country”

Great sense of humor. Line of the day!

“So, for those of us who will be crossing state lines to buy bulbs in TX, would this be a felony?”

No, unless your state does not have a reciprocal agreement with TX Concealed Handgun Licensees. Lethal injection sentence otherwise.

Depends on how old you are. My youngest children, now young adults grew up with mainly fluorescent lighting. When house shopping, we looked at a home built in the 40’s. They couldn’t believe that someone built a house that didn’t have ceiling lights.

We have lethal injection, and open carry is becoming vogue. I can only stockpile so many light bulbs before I start moving my clothes out of the closet.

I just counted mine. I have 85 100-watt bulbs.

Is that enough?

Doubtful. I'm just getting two boxes anytime I'm in a store.
