The original usage is to elected Democrats who agreed to run as Republicans.
This business of using the term to apply to politicians who'd never been elected Democrats showed up in Free Republic AFTER 9/11 (I recently posted the URL to that particular thread for everyone's benefit).
More recently people have been peddling it as a substitute for LEFTWINGTARD and all that terms cognates (Marxist, Democrat, Puke, Pinko, Commie, Socialist), but still usually in direct reference to people in the professional political class.
No, it's not applicable to the electorate.
The fact you want to stretch it to the electorate tells me you probably support Perry (who really was an elected Democrat once) ~ and you wish to obscure that fact as meaningful.
Now we are dealing with Huntsman ~ the Manchurian Candidate. Of course he is hopelessly out of date in his political thinking. He appears to be unaware of the damge Obama (and his Democrat and Commie handlers) has done to the country ~ then he attempts to spread that blame to everybody else.
Only makes me trust him less and less as this goes on.
If Huntsman wants to be President I suggest he run as a Democrat.
