The Obama administration is in talks this week with the man who could replace the current head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), a man gun-rights groups have railed against as being hostile to their cause.
Andrew Traver was nominated in November by President Barack Obama to become ATF director, but the National Rifle Association has stalled his appointment, citing his anti-gun rights stance.
Traver, who now heads the ATFs Chicago field office, is to meet Attorney General Eric Holder and top Justice Department officials this week.
Travers visit was seen at the Capitol as the sign that Kenneth Melson, the acting director of the ATF, will be stepping down in the wake of the Fast and Furious gun-running scheme in which weapons were sold to Mexicos drug cartels.

I’m beginning to think this whole thing was orchestrated from the get-go.
If you thought F&F was bad, just wait for Traver to get in the driver’s seat!
There should be an instantaneous Senatorial ‘hold’ on this nomination.
Ain’t no suprise. More of Obama working against the people and their original rights.
The bang list should try and look up the Chicago police super’s speech in front of Father Faker’s parish, it is an update on an old Jim Jones speech with mentions of the NRA and Palin.
Congress needs to put their foot down, refuse to even considere another Obama appointment and choose an interim director who will ivestigate right from the inside.
We can count on the administration line being, had the Senate confirmed Andrew Traver, Operation Fast and Furious could not have happened. But, if Fast and Furious was a set-up, as some believe it was, to expose American gun sellers and initiate stronger anti-gun laws, then Traver was the perfect choice, and perhaps Obama needs him more than ever. Read background on the new requirement that the Senate confirm BATF directors.
The real concern is, who knew about Operation Fast and Furious in the Department of Justice? And when did they know it? We design a program to walk thousands of powerful firearms into Mexico, and no one in the DOJ knows about it? Im not buying it. For details on this horrendous program, see a list of related articles below the video.
“a man gun-rights groups have railed against as being hostile to their cause.”
So the guy’s just an average, everyday, urban Democrat politician? What’s newsy about our anti-gun urban Democrat president appointing yet another anti-gun urban Democrat to yet another bureaucracy? Obama’s Washington is full of anti-gun Democrats. Obama’s Washington is anti-gun Democrats.
Anti gun types at the ATF??? Seems IMPOSSIBLE, doesn’t it!!!
This is NOT true. Guns were NOT allowed to walk under project Gunrunner. This is blatantly FALSE. This is yet another reason why Newsmax is crap journalism.
What do you mean “they were not allowed to walk”?
The ATF agent interviewed by Greta last night doesn’t seem to agree with your assertion. Can you help us out here by supplying more than an opinion?
Are you calling special federal agents liars?
What was that joke? Oh, ATF should be a convenience store, not a government agency.
In the mind of barry the bastard, you have only the rights he grants to you. That constitution thing is outdated in demcorat minds. Embrace the rule of the federal oligarchy, with the criminal enterprise party at the helm and your messiah dictating your existence from the fifteenth green.
Non-smokers and teetotalers as well!
He can eye anything he wants but Congress will say no to this choice.
Start writing the gutless, feckless idiot in COngress who represents you and tell them:
1) BLOCK this nomination
2) Cut off ALL funds to ATF - PERMANENTLY.
All promotions, nominations, retirements should be held in abeyance in the ATF until Issa has staged his show.
I thoroughly hope that Darrell Issa will bring his investigation to it’s inevitable end by an Obama impeachment . Barring that and knowing it is hoping against hope to believe this investigations will do anything more than get some mid-level agent scapegoated and fired, job activity in the ATF should be held up until (what I believe will be) it’s phony conclusion.
