Wisconsin one of last states to approve concealed carry (Illinois is the only one left)

Wis. one of last states to approve concealed carry
By: SCOTT BAUER | Associated Press | 06/21/11 8:05 PM

Lawmakers in Wisconsin, one of the last states to prohibit the carrying of concealed weapons, approved lifting the ban Tuesday and sent Republican Gov. Scott Walker a measure he is expected to quickly sign into law.

Once Wisconsin's measure takes effect this fall, Illinois will be the only state that bans carrying guns, knives and other concealed weapons.

Supporters of the measure, which passed Wisconsin's GOP-controlled Legislature with bipartisan support, said the fact that none of 48 other states with similar laws have had to repeal them shows opponents' fears about concealed carry are unwarranted.

Rep. Jeff Mursau, R-Crivitz, called the proposal he sponsored "a great first step for citizens of this state to personally be able to protect themselves."

Democrats who opposed the measure said there was no reason to change current law.

"The majority of the public in Wisconsin is not banging down our door insisting that we pass this law," said Rep. Donna Seidel, D-Wausau.

Maybe because the Rats run from the state whenever a vote for something isn't to their liking

In the state of Madiganistan, with its new capitol city of Rahmabad (former Kingdom of Richard), and with weak-kneed RINOs in The Combine, it will require a tectonic shift in party politics to allow concealed carry here.

Miracles DO happen, but the last miracle in this state was an unknown state senator with soaring rhetoric and a tissue-thin resume' winding up in the White Crib, so we are careful when wishing for miracles.

I’m not sure Satan performs miracles vis-a-vis winning the White Crib. But it could be a divine curse, kind of like what happened to ancient Egypt.

Here, they’ll arrest you for having a concealed sharp pencil.

Maryland requires documented evidence of threats against you before issuing a permit. In other words, NO concealed/open carry unless you’re very well-connected.

Great point, maybe I was thinking of a "miracle", in this context, as like Harry Potter on crack.

If the 'bullet' train from New Fallujah to Rahmabad is actually built, we will all need concealed carry and a buncha bullets.

Illinois has carry. You just have to be a gangbanger or mafioso. You know, a member of an organization that provides financial supporr to the Democratic Party.

Misleading at best. New Jersey is a “may issue” state, but in prctice, unless you are in law enforcement or politically connected, fuhgeddabouditt!

How many other states have the same problem? Lots, I’ll bet.

Illinois (my homestate) has gotten exactly what it deserves. For decades, downstate (rural) Democrats continued to vote strictly along party lines, in the sickeningly mistaken belief that their party was still run by Harry S. Truman types. This idiocy, combined with the corruption of the Chicago political capos they put into power (not to mention the sheer number of voters - both those already dead and those still living and voting early and often - have turned Illinois into a virtual socialist state. It’s broke, most of its governors wind up indicted, and you have to get permission from your local chief of police to own a firearm. (Google “Illinois FOID”). Hell, you can’t even buy a firecracker in the Land of Lincoln. Take a look at East St. Louis, and that’s what the entire state will look like in about 50 years.

I live in Illinois and actually have a FOID. In Illinois' defense, the FOID is shall-issue.

Because of my chosen career (financial mathematician), there are only a few states in which I could get a reasonable job. Illinois is the best on the list. Others would include Connecticut (lived there for 8 months and hated it), New York, New Jersey, Massachusettes, and California. Of course, financial firms are beginning to move out of these states.

I think Illinois will soon be ripe for the picking. People are really pissed about the tax hikes and employers (including my own) are threatening to incorporate in different states to lower their tax burdens. The problem with economic reality is that eventually you run out of ways to escape it.

I live in Illinois, and I’m the chairman of the Illinois Center Right Coalition, a conservative, statewide group that was founded in 2003. We’ll hold our annual convention, this Sat., at noon, in Mokena. If you want to learn more, please read our site, www.illinoiscenterright.com.

Except that there's almost no "may issue" states left, even on paper. Just about everybody is "shall issue", with a growing number of "issue what?" states where permitless CCW is legal (AK, AZ, WY, NH, and a bill that went down before this one passed in WI).

Oops, strike NH and substitute VT, although NH did have a ConCarry bill that failed this session or last.

Try carrying open or concealed with only your FOID and see what happens.

Yes, the convention is open to all Illinois conservatives. I hope that you’ll join and persuade others to do so. In which town do you live? I live in Northfield. The convention will be held at Morgan’s Thunderbowl, at 18700 S. Old La Grange Rd., Mokena. I reserved a free room because each attendee is expected to buy lunch.

Illinois’ FOID program is a de facto firearms registration data base. If you apply for and receive one, you’re on file somewhere, I guarantee it. On the other hand, it’d be interesting to know how many gangbangers in Chicago, Peoria, Decatur and East St. Louis have FOID cards. I’d guess between 2 and 0 percent. Thus, when it comes time for the ‘progressives’’ big gun round-up, the only folks on the list will be law-abiding citizens. The inner-city vermin will have a field day once their prey is completely neutered. But, hey, Illinois, keep putting those Dems in office!
