On Monday, former Vice President Al Gore discussed climate change and pollution control at the Games for Change convention in New York City. Aside from his usual litanies of environmental advice nuggets, the 2000 presidential candidate delved into…family planning.
Curiously, Gore said that couples need to learn to “feel comfortable having small families” so that pollution can be curbed. When asked about what could be done to address population growth, he said:
“One of the things we could do about it is to change the technologies, to put out less of this pollution, to stabilize the population, and one of the principle ways of doing that is to empower and educate girls and women. You have to have ubiquitous availability of fertility management so women can choose how many children have, the spacing of the children.
You have to lift child survival rates so that parents feel comfortable having small families and most important — you have to educate girls and empower women. And that’s the most powerful leveraging factor, and when that happens, then the population begins to stabilize and societies begin to make better choices and more balanced choices.”

On the train from St. Petersburg to Moscow in 1998, we saw this very thing for many miles. Not a car or tractor or telephone pole in sight. Not even a donkey. Everything was done by hand. Nothing but ramshackle, run-down huts made with rough sawn lumber and log slabs, and people in groups hoeing common gardens and fields by the side of the tracks.
NO signs of modern civilization until we were about 50 km from Moscow.

It means abortion at gunpoint. It also means sterilization at gunpoint.
To have fewer children, implies having less sexual relations.
Less sexual relations equals sex-crazed poodles.
The birth rates in most of Western Europe are already far below replacement rate, except for the immigrated Muslims in those countries (France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, etc...). The US is just about at replacement rate. If the west takes Gore’s recommendations, the appearance of the global Caliphate will be hastened.
How about a “one child” policy like Red China - then Thomas Friedman’s dreams can come true..........
I see that as a selling point - if only liberals are refusing to reproduce, won't we end up with fewer liberals and more conservatives?

Yes, the one child policy had two effect-an aging population and a population of young adults that contains more males and females (20 million more males I believe).
The one child policy led to fewer baby girls being born.

Just like China! This is extremely frightening. I have seen the left really start increasing the whole “population control” issue for some time now. I guess getting people use to the idea and lingo (like “fertility management”). We live in frightening times.

It really is about getting people to use less resources so there are more resources for the elites, because it is assumed that we are using those resources up. Everything connected to the left is merely the means to that end.
Liberals have “reproduced” for over a generation by indoctrinating the kids of conservatives.
Let the conservatives (ie, the Christians) take the burden of supporting children,
and libs will just coopt them in the public school system.

Didn’t know that western Russia was still that backward.
I was deployed to Uzbekistan in 2004. Along the road to Samarkand we saw villages, power lines, tractors, and houses with electricity. More trucks on the road than cars. Even schools, factories and farmers’ markets. Yet Central Asia was said to be much poorer than Russia proper.
