I work in the “higher education” setting and free speech is the last thing to be expected in a modern college setting. If it isn’t PC it better not be stated or written or you will suffer the consequences. And in most, not all, but most cases you will spout the BS political lines of the instructors or suffer their wrath on your grades.
The only ideas you are allowed to be exposed to in academia are pure liberalism all others are verboten.

In my position I encounter students who at times are deeply troubled by the political indoctrination they encounter in their classes and don’t know what to do as many are freshman. In many cases I have to point out these instructors have never had a real job in the real world so don’t take their point of view as gospel. I also point out you have to decide on your course of action. You need to size up the professor and see if they will hold it against you for daring to question them in the classroom. If you think he or she will give you a fair shake stand your ground with logic and common sense.

If they don’t think they can get a fair shake then two options I suggest, drop the class or hold your nose spout their liberal BS back to them, take the grade and remember, always remember what you had to do to placate so-called open minded and tolerant liberalism.

What is sad is trying to point this out to a liberal professor, they will have no part of it. They claim open mindedness and tolerance of all opinions in the classroom. Yet when you cite examples they dismiss those claims as not accurate or lies. Total obliviousness to their closed mindedness.

Looks like the first course a modern collage student should take is acting. Say the lines, get the ticket punched, move on.

May I offer a suggestion to go along with your “spout it back at’em” advice?

If they choose to challenge the teacher, they can reply in writing to the teacher and Dean, “I feel that you are suppressing my freedom to express myself freely under color of your authority and if this continues I will be forced to take legal action against the institution and the teacher involved. If I receive any repercussions to this letter, IE my grades suddenly drop, I will only use it as evidence in any legal proceedings you force me to bring.”

You’ve described the old Soviet system to a T. It won’t be long before one of your students is ‘caught’ on some PC transgression, ‘tried by some Committee’, one of whose liberal members will recall your ‘reactionary’ comments, at which point an official dossier on you will be started.

It used to be that a student could hunker down as you advocate, pass through the academic system and escape into the real world and go on with his life. Unfortunately, the beliefs held by academics have invaded the corporate environment. The left achieved their break out when the corporate ‘Personnel Dept.” Became “Human Resources”, the very name boldly signaling their triumph. The new politburo casting its controlling shadow over nearly every aspect of large business. No need to unionize the corporate workers when fear rules the work place.

Oh, Brave new world!
