Reps. Frank and Paul: Let states legalize pot
Seattle Post Intelligencer ^ | June 22, 2011 | Joel Connelly

A bipartisan team of Reps. Barney Frank, D-Mass., and Ron Paul, R-Texas, will introduce federal legislation that would permit states to legalize, regulate, tax and control marijuana without federal interference.

The legislation will be unveiled Thursday by Frank, an outspoken liberal Democrat, and the libertarian Paul, who is running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

The bill would limit the U.S. government role in marijuana enforcement to interdiction of cross-border or inter-state smuggling. Citizens would be able to legally grow, use or sell cannabis in states which have legalized the forbidden weed.

The legislation is the first bill to be introduced in Congress that would end federal marijuana prohibition.

In a preview of the legislation, the Marijuana Policy Project noted that last week marked the 40th Anniversary of when President Nixon declared that the federal government was at war with marijuana and other drugs.

Nixon had rejected recommendations by a presidential panel that the country move toward decriminalization and an education and treatment-based drug policy.

"100% of them drank milk as kids."

Not a fair comparison as milk does not make a kid high. What's needed is a federal task force to round up the little degenerates who spin around to make themselves dizzy. That's the gateway high.

A logical fallacy is a logical fallacy. Correlation does not equal causation.

FWIW I drank alcohol before I smoked pot. I smoked cigarettes before I drank alcohol. I drank coffee before I smoked cigarettes. And lo and behold! I drank milk before I drank coffee. In addition all foods create mood altering effects to some degree or another.

Of course! I don’t want my tax dollars to fund prisons wher the lives of teen are permanently destroyed (gang rapes, ladder to criminal careers, etc) for selling this product.

Then maybe they should follow the law. That way they have nothing to worry about.

"Alcohol is clearly the #1 gateway drug in America"

I agree with your view but to be accurate caffeine, far and away, holds that mantel.

Oh, yeah? If you want your or hubby’s sperm damaged from smoking pot, then go ahead and smoke pot.

Your sex drive is lessened when you smoke pot.

You have a better chance to develop schizophrenia if you start smoking pot or taking hard drugs while a teenager.

Go ahead and smoke pot! Yahhh!/heavy sarcasm

I can't wait! Maybe another forty years and I'll be able to think of something other than sex.

Did your children turn out all right? Marijuana is supposed lower your sex drive and damage the man’s sperm, so I hope your children turned out all right...

There is the possibility that you could get caught for smoking pot...sooner or later.

Ah, an individual who THINKS about sex all the time! Nice that I don’t know you! You must be in your early 20’s or 30’s, let me know in about 40 years how you feel about sex then.

Add Ohio to that. You can have up to almost 3# before it becomes a class 3 felony carrying a 60 day jail term.Less than that is the equlivent of a traffic ticket.

I am 56. How else could I already have 40 years of pot smoking experience? Has something slowed down your cognitive abilities?

so I hope your children turned out all right...

No you are hoping the opposite so you can justify your mistaken belief about illegal drugs causing genetic damage. Just curious, what is it about criminalization of drugs that suddenly causes them to cause genetic damage?

BTW, back in the seventies when I smoked weed and my son was born, he turned out alright. Oh, and he is completing his PhD in physics next spring and has two perfectly normal children.

You sir would be very wrong about your conclusion about true conservatives. Those of us under the age of 60 would mostly likely be about 80%+ in favor of doing just this.
