Ten Brands That Will Disappear in 2012 [No more Kellogg's Corn Pops? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!]

Kellogg's Corn Pops

The cereal business is not what is used to be, at least for products that are not considered "healthy." Among those is Kellogg's Corn Pops ready-to-eat cereal. Sales of the brand dropped 18% over the year that ended in April, down to $74 million. That puts it well behind brands like Cheerios and Frosted Flakes, each which have sales of over $200 million a year. Private label sales have also hurt sales of branded cereals. Revenues in this category were $637 million over the same April-end period. There is also profit margin pressure on Corn Pops because of the sharp increase in corn prices. Kellogg's describes the product as being "crispy, glazed, crunchy, sweet." Corn Pops also contain mono- and diglycerides, used to bind saturated fat, and BHT for freshness, which is also used in embalming fluid. None of these are likely to be what mothers want to serve their children in an age in which a healthy breakfast is more likely to be egg whites and a bowl of fresh fruit.

I haven’t seen Count Chocula, Frankenberry, or Crispy Critters in many years.

Sears has a huge parts website for all kinds of brands. I hope someone takes that over and runs it well. Sears did a nice job with it.

>> “and less fat than egg and sausage” <<

.
Reducing fats, particularly animal fats is fallacy.

About the most unhealthy thing you can do.

Reduce your carbs, the lower the better, except fot the indoles (broccoli, cabbage, etc), and never eat less than one egg per day, or blindness will be your retirement plan.

>> “I haven’t been able to find Count Chocula in any of the local grocery stores over the past five months.” <<

Is that what you would call “food insecurity?”

Such a classic! All should be sure not to miss the cigarette in this “Olympic athlete’s” left hand.

Don't remember that one. I think the Bass-O-Matic was a favorite at our student lounge.

Exactly!

Eggs are nature’s most complete and perfect food.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Yep, that Rice Krinkles commercial could never air today.

Swill was a mineral water that came from a lake and had the consistency of a gel. In the add, Bill Murray purs some into a glass and extracts a pull tab from the mineral laden goo.

On that note, I assume you’ve heard of Cap’n Crunch French toast?

A&W won’t disappear.

They are just a name, anyway; the original A&W was bought out by KFC, and now they have KFC and A&W in the same location in thousands of places.

My eldest son’s primary business is building and maintaining those restaurants for companies like Harmon.

I remember the Bill Cosby routine when his wife ordered him to make breakfast for the kids, so he gave them chocolate cake and grapefruit juice.....and they were singing praises to me....”Dad is great....he let’s us eat chocolate cake.....”

Instead of the sugar, try molasses. I love it that way.

I stepped on a pull tab in a lake near here last year. I think those things were banned in the early 70s. So, around forty years ago, someone dropped it and it lay in wait for me ever since. Talk about a nostalgia trip!
