Fugitive on run for 16 years wanted in 19 murders, inspired film 'The Departed'
LOS ANGELES James "Whitey" Bulger, a notorious Boston gangster on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" list for his alleged role in 19 murders, has been captured near Los Angeles after living on the run for 16 years, authorities said Wednesday.
The FBI tweeted his capture along with his girlfriend, Catherine Greig, early Wednesday morning.
Santa Monica Police Sgt. Rudy Flores said the agency informed him of the arrest.
Bulger, 81, was the leader of the Winter Hill Gang when he fled in January 1995 after being tipped by a former Boston FBI agent that he was about to be indicted. Bulger was a top-echelon FBI informant.

By any chance, did they arrest the “Former Boston FBI Agent” as well?
Yes. He is doing time right now.
Cool. Hate to see a corrupt FBI agent get away with conspiracy.
81 years old? What’d the FBI do, put an APB on all old geezers with walkers?
Since the FBI protected him as a Confidential Informant for years, permitting him to commit crimes (Does Gun Walker ring a bell for anyone)I doubt they want to see him go to trial and reveal all.
Hope you make to trial Whitey and don’t fall victim to a jail house assassination.
