Obama wants the debt limit raised. The GOP is holding all the cards here. Obama is in the weak position because he will not get what he wants unless the GOP agrees to it. The GOP needs to take the strong position that the debt limit increase will only happen if the Dems also agree to a laundry list of demands such as:
* A balanced budget constitutional amendment
* Real immediate cuts to spending that take effect immediately, not promises of future cuts years from now.
* Real cuts to entitlements
* Absolutely no new taxes and no new spending.
* Repeal the light bulb ban
* etc.
The GOP needs to make it clear that it is Obama’s choice: accept these terms, or there will be no increase in the debt limit.
