An AFSCME local representing correction officers rejected the concession deal in voting tallied today, formalizing what has been apparent for days: the unions' tentative agreement with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy for $1.6 billion in savings over two years is dead.
Malloy said he will ask the legislature in a special session Thursday to authorize him to now make the necessary spending cuts to balance the budget, rather than present detailed revisions for lawmakers to approve. He said granting him that authority would be the quickest and easiest way to amend the budget.
"I'm going to do everything in my power to minimize that impact," Malloy said, particularly in the upcoming fiscal year. The governor added he has made "no hard decisions" yet about any specific reductions in town aid.
House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan, D-Meriden, said the House will want to see a detailed plan for cuts before a voting on granting Malloy the expanded rescissionary authority.

I for one, hate to see the legislative branch giving over more power to the executive.

Excellent. Layoff their “brothers” in other state jobs instead and blame them for it.
Malloy is not serious. He is a democrat, just posturing for the media.
As Jim Calhoun might say “Not one dime more (in taxes).”
Dannel doesn’t even know how to spell his name.
Or maybe it’s just a Democrat thing.
Oh c’mon. Who didn’t see this coming? This budget “deal” was a sham from the get go.
Its interesting that hearing from some of these State Workers, the reason for them voting No was that the union Leadership and The Governor were going to be Funneling all these State Workers into The Obamacare Health Exchanges down the Road! How do you like that the Democrat Gov. gets Bitten in the arse by his own Marxist Buddies.
Malloy Is Looking to be the Big Democrat Hero On Meet the Press and Run for President in 2016 saying,Look what I did in Ct. Raised Taxes Through the Roof Paid all the Government Workers their Big Fat Pensions and look what a Paradise Ct. Is.
