I think it was ABC Radio that sain the truck driver might be at fault. She must not know how big a train is. Everyone who hits a train is at fault.

Unless the truck stalled on the tracks, you are almost certainly correct.

It’s not like people don’t know where the trains are going to be.

Well, it’s not like the engineer can get a train to hop the tracks and aim it at somebody.

“Amtrak-truck crash kills 2, injures 20 in Nevada”
Updated at 12:37 AM today
By Leslie Brinkley

SNIPPET: “EMERYVILLE, Calif. (KGO) — A fiery crash happened in rural Nevada after a semi plows into an Amtrak train. At least two people are dead and dozens injured. More than 200 people were on that train. Passengers on-board from Chicago arrived in Sacramento a little over an hour ago. They got off a bus and onto a train, bound for Emeryville.

Emeryville was the final destination for train No. 5, the California Zephyr, but then the unexpected happened Friday morning before that train even got to Reno.

Flames engulfed several passenger cars on the Amtrak train after a big rig truck struck the westbound California Zephyr around 11:30 a.m. at a crossing 60 miles east of Reno. Some passengers were trapped inside as smoke from the burning cars soared into the blue desert sky. There were 204 passengers and 14 crew members were on board the train going from Chicago to Emeryville and the crash happened without warning.”

Real high speed trains have no grade crossings.

“5 die many hurt as semi hits Bay Area-bound train”

by Jaxon Van Derbeken, Kevin Fagan,Will Kane, Chronicle Staff Writers
Saturday, June 25, 2011

SNIPPET: “Federal transportation safety officials said numerous bodies remained onboard a Chicago-to-Emeryville Amtrak train in the Nevada desert after a gravel-hauling tractor-trailer rig slammed into it east of Reno at midday Friday.

The rig’s driver and a train conductor were among the five confirmed dead as of late Friday. Scores of victims were sent to hospitals with injuries, while as many as 45 remained unaccounted for, federal officials said.”

SNIPPET: “”We’re all wondering how in the world this could happen,” said Kurt Althof, spokesman for Careflight helicopter ambulance, which flew two women with serious injuries to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. “There is absolutely nothing on that highway. It’s just desert. How a truck could go into a train like that out there is just bizarre.”

The train was the California Zephyr, which had originated in Chicago. It was due to arrive in Emeryville at 4:10 p.m., with 14 crew members onboard.”

“Feds Look Into Truck Driver Killed in Fiery Amtrak Crash”
Published June 25, 2011
Associated Press

SNIPPET: “Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Lopez said the gates and warning lights were working. Witnesses told authorities that the truck didn’t seem to attempt to stop at the crossing when it crashed through the gate. The driver was the sole occupant of the semi, which was hauling two empty gravel trailers.”

"Wow, it wasn't a terrorist thing, was it?" Bruce Askansas of Sacramento said as he waited for his train in Emeryville. "I've been riding 10 years, and the worst I've seen was we hit a deer."

I had a feeling those radical Amish would be involved!

Since we don’t have HSR in this country that is an easy statement to make. If you are referring to HSR in other countries then having such limitations certainly puts a kink in the available routes unless road bridges are built for EVERY happenstance of crossing which further escalates the cost. Just how many farmers in fly over country are going to get excited about that possibility?

Did the truck hit the train, or the horses that were pulling it?

What’s the name of the driver? What’s his background? Will the government tell us?

I have a gut feeling that this was a deliberate attempt to crash the train, I just woke up and even before I turned on the news or even the puter I knew that some form of terrorist attack was going or had already happened.

And I believe that this story will be whitewashed to death about it NOT being a terrorist attack, with all the scrutiny at truckers with dangerous loads who would look twice at a gravel truck?

And I would keep an eye on any other similar events across the country. Its already been proved that terrorists are hoping for a Jihaad movement to be initiated across America.

In Texas, the majority of gravel trucks are driven by illegal aliens from Mexico who frequently try to beat trains at railroad crossings. Sometimes they lose.
