"Gay Marriage- A Milestone" [NY Times Editorial Applauds Four NY Turn Coat State Senators!]

Gay Marriage- A Milestone

Though there was unnecessary secrecy in the negotiations, Gov. Andrew Cuomo made a determined effort to achieve marriage equality in New York. He shares credit with the four Republican state senators who bucked their party and threats from conservatives to do what they knew was right. State Senators James Alesi, Roy McDonald, Mark Grisanti and Stephen Saland, all from upstate districts, deserve the support of their communities. They showed the kind of strength that is extremely hard to find in today’s politics.

In drafting a compromise, however, Senator Saland and other Republicans insisted on language that carves out exceptions for religious institutions and not-for-profit corporations affiliated with those religious entities.

That provision allows those tax-exempt entities to refuse to marry a same-sex couple or to allow the use of their buildings or services for weddings or wedding parties. There was simply no need for these exemptions, since churches are protected under both the federal Constitution and New York law from being required to marry anyone against their beliefs. Equally troubling, an “inseverability clause” in the act appears to make it impossible for any court to invalidate part of the law without invalidating the whole law — raising questions about what happens to couples during an appeal.

The next stop I predict on this train ride to disaster is polygamy. The gays will want to have multiple partners and see no reason why it should be penalized. The law was made for heterosexuals they will argue.

Could be.

Could also be a drastic lowering of the age of consent. To go along with all those adoptions.

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
Isaiah 5:20”

Wow!

This is very similar to the way I described my definition of insanity in my post just a few below yours.

“Insanity is seeing Good in that which is Evil, and seeing Evil in that which is Good.”

I must confess that I have never knowingly read Isaiah 5:20.

I am at a loss for words after reading your post.

I believe you are right that He is letting man have his own way to his own destruction.

I don’t know how to respond to this situation other than to say this.

I believe in my Lord, Jesus Christ, and I ask Him for His wisdom so that I may know Right from Wrong and Good from Evil.

And these idiots really believe the Constitution means ANYTHING to the homosexual lobby? Much of what is considered "gay rights" violates the free speech of all who oppose them. Conservatives have got to drive home the point and show examples of how so-called "gay" rights violates the free speech and religious rights of those who oppose it.

I’d make only one change in your statement: The phrase should be “those who don’t believe in Almighty God, The Creator and Master of the Universe. To speak of belief in Jesus only is to narrow and diminish the eternal truth of the need for mankind to walk humbly in the immutable civilizing laws of the God worshipped by the sincere followers of ethical monotheism, all rooted in God’s covenant with the Jewish people.
______________________
“I want to take the occasion of your post to say the follwing.

I believe that government is the foulest creation of mankind.

I mean that in the most serious sense. It is from government that the absolute worst of mankind comes. It is from man’s desire to control other men that spawns all wars, immorality, lust for power, and greed.

It is from government that spawns the ultimate expression of the Evil of mankind, Naziism. As long as government exists, it will steam toward that eventual, Evil end.

I have come to believe, rather recently in fact, that in order for man to survive, government cannot exist. Man cannot rule other men. He cannot, because he is corrupt. Only the Lord can rule man, in my belief, and only a man who allows The Lord in him can rule himself.

I believe that is the only way forward. Faith in the Lord, and allowing the Lord to rule one’s life, and living accordingly. Allowing other men to rule us has brought us to The Fall. Sadly, there may be no way to achieve this ideal, and since I believe that man should not attempt to rule other men, I simply try to achive this within my own life, and no one else’s.

I do not listen to the law, or any other man. I walk through life on my own path, and I have made many errors. However, I know the difference between Right and Wrong, because He tells me the difference. It is as clear as day to anyone who will listen.

Perhaps I have gone insane, I just don’t know, it’s hard to determine the definition at times, because I feel I live in an insane world. But by my definition of insanity, I have not.

Insanity is seeing Good in that which is Evil, and seeing Evil in that which is Good.

What has happened in New York is insanity. It was brought about by those who do not believe in ALMIGHTY GOD, and I will never recognize what they have done.

God Help Us All.

I do accept that change. Sometimes I speak ignorantly in matters of religion, because I have struggled with religion throughout my life. When I was younger, I was atheist for a time.

When I speak of Jesus Christ, I believe it comes from my time as a child when I was raised as a catholic. I realize that sometimes I speak of Jesus and God as if they are the same, but I know they are not. It is a mistake on my part.

So, just to clarify what is in my head on this, I believe in the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, The Virgin Mary, and God. I do believe that God is in fact The Creator of everything, including me, my soul. Sometimes, when I pray, I pray to Jesus, other times to God. I’m not sure why this is, to be honest.

I recognize that different religions view these details in a different manner, and I accept that. The only thing I do not accept is Islam.

When it comes to that time, I will stand with Israel.

I can’t believe these 4 RINOS were fighting for something that already exists. Aren’t these LAWmakers supposed to know the law? This is so ridiculous on so many levels. And these RINOS don’t even know they’ve been taken to the cleaners!!! What an embarrassment!

I am grateful for your understanding and candor about your personal background in sometimes using the name “Jesus,” when really you mean God, in whose image mankind should walk.

Actually, Chris37, you are not mistaken as far as historical, orthodox Christian belief goes. Christian theology teaches that there is One God, expressed in three Persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All three are fully God - yet One.

In other words, historical Christian doctrine teaches that Jesus was God in the flesh - God incarnated. See John 1:1-16. Also, notice the things Jesus did - He had power over creation, He healed the sick, He raised the dead (i.e. Lazarus), He forgave sins (only God could do that according to the Bible), and accepted worship from His disciples (only God was to be worshipped according to the Scriptures).

He also claimed to be one and the same as His Father (God) - see John 10:22-39. He used a title for Himself that was only to be used by God (John 8:34-59) - notice verse 58 and 59. The Apostles used titles only given to God and applied them also to Jesus (”I Am”, “The First and the Last”, the “Alpha and Omega” are some of them).

The Trinity is one of the most misunderstood doctrines of the New Testament and so, you are not alone in being uncertain about just who Jesus was (and is).

Anyway, if you are interested, there are many passages in the Old and New Testaments that demonstrate that Jesus was not only Messiah, but also God Himself in human form (as God the Son). If you would like me to share some of those, I’d be glad to.

I disagree.

I think that once homosexuality is passe, pedophilia is next up for normalization. It’s making inroads already in the glorification of Cougars and “MILFs” and I expect the left to start pushing for “dialogue” about age of consent.

“..but how do conservatives manage to sell their soul for temporary political gain?”

Just because they’re Republicans doesn’t mean they are ‘conservatives’. There are very few GOP NY reps that come even close to being a conservative.

This wouldn’t have happened if Carl Paladino would have won the Governorship.

This is just more evidence that we have successfully dumbed down our country.

Only those with deranged and disordered minds would believe that they are achieving "equality" when it physically cannot be achieved.

Male and female genitalia are made for union. Male/male or female/female can only achieve union by means of deviant, unnatural, and risky behavior to both the physical and mental health of the perverts in addition to adding risk to the entire population.

Anything that puts all of the people at risk is NOT normal and not acceptable! Cuomo looks and sounds like a fool, as do the people who elected him!

That is very interesting, and I did not know it. I’d often wondered why, in my mind, I referred to God and Jesus as separate, but also as the same at times.

I am very interested in reading those passages. I do not have a smuch knowledge on this as I would like, and I really appreciate your post, Nevadan :)

I believe that government is the foulest creation of mankind......It is from government that the absolute worst of mankind comes. It is from man’s desire to control other men that spawns all wars, immorality, lust for power, and greed.

There was a suggestion among scholarship a few years ago, during the Reagan era, that the occasional "dark ages" of ancient Egyptian and Greek history weren't quite that, but rather holidays from "government" during which the peoples of Greece and Egypt prospered.

The last days of the Eighteenth Dynasty in Egypt were like that. The Egyptian scribes describe all sorts of outrages and horrors which, on reananlysis, sound like court outrages and insults to official arrogance.

These scholars argued that the recession of power and pomp and the people's dishonoring of officialdom and its pretensions may actually have been positive and beneficial to the people and economy of Egypt.

There was a similar period from the later eleventh to the ninth century BC in Greece -- the so-called Sub-Mycenean and Proto-Geometric (so called from pottery traditions) periods in Greece, after the power of the Mycenean chiefdoms and cities (fortresses, or perhaps "robbers' keeps" might have been more apt) had failed, when the people were able to get their livings without the impositions of palace officials.

Only the Lord can rule man, in my belief, and only a man who allows The Lord in him can rule himself.

John Adams said that our Constitution was suitable only for moral people who knew how to govern themselves -- beginning with the individual who knows how to govern himself in the light of Judaeo-Christian morality. He flatly stated that the Constitution would be inadequate to govern immoral and corrupt people, and that other arrangements would be required for the government of such people.

Mario Cuomo Patched Things Up With Ed Koch For Andrew

The NY Times has a long feature on the relationship between former NY governor Mario Cuomo and presumptive 2010 gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo that includes quotes like "He’s thick skulled; he won’t listen to me. Tell him what to do" (supposedly what Mario told a consultant about Andrew) and "There was this sense of rivalry — Andrew seemed to feel that his dad talked a good game but that he, Andrew, got things done" (someone who worked under Andrew Cuomo at HUD). But what's interesting is how the 1977 mayoral campaign comes into play.

Back in 1977, Mario Cuomo was battling Ed Koch for the NYC mayorship, and there were nasty campaign posters saying "Vote For Cuomo, Not The Homo." When Andrew Cuomo was running for attorney general in 2006 (after his failed 2002 gubernatorial run and divorce from Kerry Kennedy), the NY Times reports, "Mario approached George Arzt, a former press secretary to Mr. Koch, at the Regency Hotel in New York and told him, “‘I’d like to patch things up with Ed,’ ” Mr. Arzt recalled. “I asked him what he had in mind. And he said, ‘Could Ed endorse Andrew?’" Which Koch did do.

Koch, for his part, told Esquire, "The signs said, VOTE FOR CUOMO, NOT THE HOMO. Andrew says he didn't do it, and I believe him. Mario says he thinks he now knows who did it. I was very angry at the time. Primary races always end in anger. They're different than the general election: They're like a civil war — it's brother against brother. But I've forgiven them. I'm eighty-five now, and grudges take your energy away. I've forgiven them all."

Legalize Gay Marriage - Vote Homo Not Cuomo <<--- UTube Ad

The already circus-like race for New York governor just went from one ring to three.

Independent Kristin Davis, the former New York madam, is now calling out Democrat Andrew Cuomo for not taking a stronger stance for gay rights.

“It’s outrageous that New York has not legalized same-sex marriage,” Davis says in a new ad. “Andrew Cuomo says he supports it, but when the marriage equality bill was before the Senate, he was asked to call three undecided Democratic senators and declined. A vote for me sends a strong message to Cuomo: we demand gay marriage now.”

She ends the ad with a catchy phrase: “Vote homo, not Cuomo”:

According to CBS News, the line is a play off a campaign slogan used by some supporters of Andrew’s father Mario in the 1977 New York mayoral election against Ed Koch: “Vote for Cuomo, not the homo.” The reference was meant to advance rumors about Koch’s sexuality.

Andrew Cuomo 2016 speculation heating up Politico ^ | 06/26/11

With his successful push to pass a gay marriage law, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo overnight became a national contender, putting down a major marker among the liberal party base that dominates the primaries.

“Most politicians, including most Democrats, have been afraid of this issue. Andrew is the first national figure ever to embrace it so enthusiastically,” said Richard Socarides, the president of Equality Matters and a former Clinton White House adviser. “Clearly, this establishes him as the most important progressive leader of our party, setting him up very well for 2016.”

Come 2016, “Cuomo is the only one who will be able to say ‘I delivered for you’ before everyone else realized it was politically popular, and that will be an invaluable asset,” Socarides said, adding, “it also has the benefit of being true.”

Cuomo supporters already have fanned the flames privately of his prospects on the national stage: Rumors of his White House ambitions started circulating in New York even before he was elected last year by one of the largest margins in state history — some of them date to the days when he was managing his father’s own multiple flirtations with a national run. ..........

Of the early potential Democratic contenders, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley says he supports gay marriage but stopped short of making a major push for the legislation earlier in the year, while Virginia Sen. Mark Warner is opposed. Hillary Clinton, if she runs, would still have her commitment to civil unions but not gay marriage from the 2008 race hanging over her — and at least until the end of next year, when she’s said she’ll be done at the State Department, she won’t be able to make any new comments on the issue.

“It gives him an authenticity and a strength with progressives that will provide a real base — not just gays, but progressives in general. Other people can say they’re for same sex marriage, he got it done,” said Democratic political consultant Bob Shrum. “I think it will always now be a hallmark of his political persona.”

Cuomo’s push on gay marriage wasn’t in a vacuum — it came at the end of a tough legislative session when New York progressives were forced to swallow major budget cuts, tough on unions rhetoric and a refusal to even consider renewing the state’s expired millionaire’s tax.

That’s part of the persona he’s crafting too, as Cuomo sets himself up as a governor who’s pushed the party to the left on social issues and toward the center-right on economic issues. It’s a message with both primary and general election appeal, though being so far out-front on gay marriage could be a problem in a November national election.

“He’s created a profile that I think would make him a very effective candidate,” Shrum said. “He’s right on the social issues, and he will be even more right by 2016 than he is now in terms of Democratic primary voters, and in terms of the country, frankly. He’s created a profile of economic stewardship in a very difficult period that is very strong, he’s managed to deal with unions without getting into the kind of destructive confrontations that people like Scott Walker have.”

.......

Joe Trippi, the former Howard Dean and John Edwards adviser, said it’s not too early to start the 2016 clock — and, pointing to Michael Dukakis in 1988, noted there’s a precedent for an ethnic Northeast governor appealing to Democrats far away from home.

“I understand 2016’s a long way off, and who knows where things will be then, but certainly, he has to be somebody that the party looks to for leadership once you get past Obama’s reelection,” Trippi said. “He’s putting his stamp on what kind of party he thinks the Democrats should be.”
