Rick Perry Trounces Romney In ZOGBY/NEWSMAX POLL

John G. Winder, The Cypress Times

June 28, 2011 - 1:48 p.m. CST

Texas Governor Rick Perry gets 55% of the vote to Romney’s 22%

Despite the mainstream media's best offers to give the Republican nomination for president to Mitt Romney before anyone has actually voted, a Zogby/Newsmax polls shows again how incredibly vulnerable Romney is, and how much conservatives dislike the man.

In a recent Zogby/Newsmax survey of likely Republican primary voters, Rick Perry destroys Mitt Romney basically across the board in a head-to-head matchup.

Newsmax reports:

“No matter which way you look at this, Romney’s candidacy has holes within the core Republican base,” pollster John Zogby tells Newsmax. “In simple head-to-head matchups against the two non-candidates, he gets drubbed.”

The other non-candidate is New Jersey Governor Chris Christie who beats Romney with 62 percent of the vote.

Since Christie continues to say he has no interest in running for president and since Rick Perry is now considering a run, and since we live in Texas, let’s look deeper into the Perry vs. Romney numbers.

59 percent of those who will vote in the GOP primary, but say they are independents support Perry. That's what folks in Texas would call a good old fashioned butt whoopin'.

Romney beats Perry 46 percent to 37 percent among those who call themselves moderates and, here’s a shocker, liberals support Romney 58 percent to just 3 percent for Perry.

Conservatives strongly support Perry over Romney at 62 percent vs. 16 percent for the architect of Romneycare.

Romney can only manage to garner a meager 20 percent among voters who believe the country is headed in the wrong direction.

Romney does manage to squeak past Perry among those who list their religion as “Other/None.”

Perry going to RedState Gathering -

Rick Perry will be in front of conservatives on August 12 – 14 when he appears at the Third Annual Red State Gathering. The gathering is being held in South Carolina and will be hosted by Governor Nikki Haley.

The event will be held August 12-14 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. It begins with a private party hosted by Governor Haley on Friday night and concludes with a banquet on Saturday evening.

I’m trying to be more open-minded with Perry on immigration. You can see my posts, and I’ve criticized him roundly. The good news is that his more recent actions have been opposing illegal immigration.

That said, I don’t see him leading the charge to do what I’d like to see done, and that is to massively limit legal immigration with priority to those who bring skills needed to our nation in addition to stamping out illegal immigration.

Romney's internals are so bad, that he has bypassed Iowa. That trend will continue, since he thinks he can carry momentum away from the East Coast. But his campaign strategy is highly mistaken.

“Fly-Over” country means nothing to elitist statists like him. And it will prove to become his worst enemy.

I honestly think Palin is too polarizing to win the general. I'm not saying it's of her own doing, but it is a fact that she's negatively viewed by many. We need to move on.

Perry hasn't had the media exposure (read: attacks) that Palin has had.

I have to admit I'm biased, I'm not a huge Palin fan. But still, we HAVE to win it in 2012 so it's time to be pragmatic.

I hope it sorts out quickly so all the others (each a star in his/her own way) can travel up and down the country beating the bushes so to speak, consolidated and strong behind the one we can win with-the sooner this process starts the better.

I get the impression the Liberals are banking on us wasting time and resources on pointless in-fighting.

You may be right, but I think by 2012 most voters will have forgotten about Bush, or pine for the times he was in office. The independents won’t support Obama just because Perry is from Texas.

We'll simply disagree on that, one thing you have to realize is the left (and the media, one and the same) will always demonize the candidate with an (R) behind their name.

If they can turn the very moderate W Bush into a right wing fire breathing monster, think what they can do to Perry, or anyone for that matter.

The point is not to bow to their insanity, but to fight.

Palin fights, she's made a huge come back, and if she runs, she can win. Anyone else who runs will receive the same treatment as she has. You can count on it.

Perry was a C-130 pilot. Those guys have a warm spot in my heart since they got me into and out of places where no sane man would go. Yeah, I'll vote for him over Romney any day.

Perry beat Hutchison for Gov by running as tne non-Washington candidate, and tying her to Big Government. Worked like a charm. Then tied the Dem to the liberals. Now he has another 4 years.

Am I enamored with Perry? Not on your life. Is he better than Romney? You betcha. Is he a better candidate that Palin? Probably given her baggage. Is he better on the issues than Bachmann? No, but he has more experience and would probably be a better candidate. Better campaigner, that is for sure.

I do hope that either Perry and Palin get in the race by Labor Day. I also hope only one decides to run.

I agree with that, but can you imagine if they ran as a twofer? Heads would explode in Leftyland!

I agree 100% with that; most of Palin’s “negatives” are creations of the media. I just think that because Perry hasn't been on the national stage yet at this point he hasn't had the same treatment. And I think not putting himself out there is a smart move.

I believe that Palin has made a mistake by exposing herself to the media to the extent she has. EVERYONE misspeaks and makes gaffes, if you know the media will exploit them don't give them a chance. My two cents.

I guess the Perryphobic will arrive pretty soon to tell us how horrible he is and how he is now the media’s favorite.

Yep, they're very predictable. "Perryphobic" is the perfect way to describe them. He's certainly not without fault, but who in the world do they think is?

The media has stalked Palin for years........without her doing anything to engender it.

That having been said, there isn't anything that they can dig up on Palin. OTOH, we know very little about what lurks in other candidates and those talked about as maybe candidates. There's something "messy" vis-a-vis Perry's marriage, but what else is there to be outed and trash him with? I don't know.

McCain believed that he would be immune to media attacks, and even he got both barrels.

No one (with an R) is immune to them, they will all be gone after, it's the MO of the left.

We don't know how Perry will react or handle it, we do know that Palin has gotten off of the mat and become one of the most powerful people in our political scene, plus she's learned to handle them quite well. The fun watching her tweak them is beyond mere humor.

I think the naivete of conservatives thinking it won't happen to another candidate (even a moderate) is folly.

Anyway, I'm not going to convince you, so we'll agree to disagree.

It figures that the shadow government (which runs both major parties); you know, the Globalists, the New World Order fellows, would favor a man with their own vision to be our next president! And I that man is Rick Perry if not Mitt Romney!

Google The grinding of America and buy the DVD which shows the history of Communism in the world, and the life under Communism coming to America. We have witnessed first hand a large sample of it the past two and one half years! Tell everyone you know about it. Buy the DVD. In fact, buy several and distribute them to others. This way the pen can be stronger than the sword!
