Seattle police are looking into the "very embarrassing" circumstances that led to a semi-automatic assault rifle being left on the trunk lid of an unattended patrol vehicle in public.
Everybody's done it.
You place an item on top of a car only to remember later after you or someone else has driven off.
But when the forgetful individual is a Seattle police officer and the item is a semi-automatic rifle, it's more than a little embarrassing. It's also the focus of an internal investigation.
Seattle police spokesman Sgt. Sean Whitcomb conceded Tuesday it was "very embarrassing" that a semi-automatic rifle was left on the trunk lid of a police cruiser in downtown Seattle on Monday.

“Only a semi-auto? Well that might explain why no one snagged it and drove off.”
Probably thought it was a new reality show - “Bait Gun.”
Everybody’s done it.
What the writer meant was, “all cops do it”.
Yo, Christine, here are some more stupid terms you can use.
Bolt action assault rifle
Single shot assault rifle
Double barrel assault shotgun
(Libtard display of stunning ignorance.)
semi-automatic assault rifle
They are big guns sort of like the big semi-trucks
Thats to weapons in one.
ROFLMAO!
Sorry, but if my patrol rifle is not slung around me, it’s in the rack. Period. That needs to be a cardinal rule and I don’t know why it was ignored here.
I still shudder when I think about the troops I trained with at the House of Pain in Columbus GA, who let their rifle get unattached from their body.
The cop put it down for a sec, cuz he was in a secure facility and relaxed too much. Then he forgot about it. I find just as much fault with the lieutenant who didn’t see it and drove off with it on the trunk.
Shoot, I left my pistol in a lockbox at the jail one time when I resumed patrol because I had other things on my mind. Made a traffic stop and realized I had no sidearm. Kicked that guy loose over the PA with apologies and sheepishly returned to the jail for my pistol.
Brother, I am just positively anal about my rifle, it would be like detaching my right arm, setting it down and forgetting it. It would just feel...wrong.
The pistol deal? Lol. BTDT. My BUG rattled around like mad in the holster till I could get the full size roscoe back in there.
I hear you. I never misplaced my shotgun or rifle, either, but then again, we had take home cars.
The all state variant
Thanks for posting that. I was going to try to find that on FR.
Oh man, I am laughing so hard at her.
