Southern Baptists Hit by Gay Marriage Hoax (elaborate ruse included phony press release)

Officials with the Southern Baptist Convention said they have been the victim of an elaborate online hoax that included a phony news release announcing that the nation’s largest Protestant denomination had changed its position on homosexuality.

The release was sent to an unknown number of reporters and directed readers to a website designed to replicate the real Southern Baptist Convention website, along with working telephone numbers where individuals identified themselves as employees of the SBC Executive Committee.

“It is definitely a hoax,” said Roger Oldham, vice president for communication and convention relations for the SBC Executive Committee. “It seems to be perpetrated by an unidentified hacker who is trying to mimic the look of our SBC.net family of web pages.”

The news release came from a group calling itself the “Southern Baptist Conference of America.” The release falsely announced that the Southern Baptists had met in “extraordinary emergency session” to affirm gay rights and repent “of any past homophobia that not only hurt gay people but kept them ostracized from the church.”

The release included phony quotes and comments affirming homosexuality from real denominational leaders, including Southern Baptist Convention President Bryant Wright.

Wright told Fox News Radio he suspects the cyberattack came as a result of opposition to the denomination’s stance on homosexuality and same sex marriage.

“I have a hunch that maybe somebody that was unhappy with our ongoing stand for sexual purity decided to set up this false website,” Wright said.

The press release also included a working telephone number and directed people to contact Jane Marie Walker for information.

“Other staff members called the number and it redirected them to the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention but as far as we could tell it did not redirect them to our phones,” Oldham said.

Trying to ‘put fallacies aside’ is the same as throwing out reason.

While ultimately impossible, it should be avoided as much as possible.

The Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention does not have the authority to make such a statement. They can only act upon the duties given them by the the Southern Baptist Convention witch meets two days a year.

I should have said, “Putting arguments aside...”. Now does my statement make sense and would you agree that the pill is harmful?

It appears that you are trying to retreat to a defensible position after invoking a fallacious argument.

My point is not whether or not ‘the pill’ is ‘harmful’ to a woman’s body, it is that we should not use fallacious arguments in discussion.

This acceptance of female “pastors” comes straight from Marxist ideology and egalitarianism...it denies Natural Law theory which presupposes a Supreme Being because Marxism hates the concept of God-given rights....they want to be gods and design how woman and men should be....and act and, of course, determine what they should think and how they should think.

They make “unnatural” normal...and people, denying their internal desires which are aligned with natural law (and St. Thomas A. aligned natural law with Christianity)....make them unhappy and addicted to all forms of activities to fill the “abyss” created by an empty soul....frantic to find happiness...but atheists never can. They end up like Freud—pessimists, who are angry at the pathetic condition of human beings on earth. They are miserable and they try to take everyone down with them to validate their pathetic being.

Female pastors....are women-haters....they hate how God designed their bodies...to create life....and weaker than males and more intuned to decide by emotion, rather than intellect. Intellect is the only means to Wisdom and emotions can interfere with this process of reaching Truth. To elevate females to the role of pastor, it to confuse children’s sense of sexual identity....to make everything androgynous and create sexual confusion in the young so they have no clear role models....that is why Marxists want women in combat and on submarines, and they want men to be trained to go against their natural instincts and be trained and conditioned to kill women.....something which should be unnatural to the nature of man.

This ideology that undermines the Christian paradigm is to destroy Western Civilization because it was one which got rid of slavery because of Christian principles and they want to destroy the dignity and respect for humans...so they can eliminate whom they please, like they did in socialist Germany-—by destroying Christianity and the Bonhoeffer’s....This idea of abortion, homosexual marriage, feminism...is to destroy the natural family and the culture of Western Civilization. The Cultural Marxists designed the methodologies in the 30’s and seeped these sick twisted ideas into the textbooks and media.

Everyone needs to understand ideas and where they originate....Marxism is evil and has to be ejected. It denies Natural Law....the best, most productive and flourishing concepts in human history and enshrined in our Constitution of the US.

Trying to say men and women are equal (not under the law) but biologically is stupid and the Big Lie.

The feminizing trend certainly has the most corrosive effect on today's churches. It has become a moral obligation of men to vigilantly police this influence and combat it with the only real tools available; unity and boycott. The threat and consequence of defunding and refounding each church which falls into this trend is the only real remedy. We may just have to endure the chaos of continual reinvention from now on.

I don't think that it would be so bad if all Baptist churches were somehow always fresh and new. There is a certain vigor in foundation which is lost in habituation. Baptists treasure renewal. Perhaps that should become our new habit.
