A Central Illinois state legislator has filed a bill in the House of Representatives that would allow the issue of concealed carry of a firearm to be decided on a county-by-county basis. Rep. Bill Mitchell, a Republican from Decatur, filed House Bill 3794, on June 22. The bill is based on a statewide measure that is stalled in the House.

Cool, but it still doesn’t give me much hope, seeing as I live in the Heart of Darkness (Cook County).

It sorta sounds like a nightmare to me—every time you cross a county line, your situation could change...........

I live in Lake County. This plan would not be an improvement, with the law-abiding CCWer always being in doubt. Last redistricting was intended to turn Lake county bright blue.

Small steps, small steps. A few years after implementation, push for a “Unified” statewide CCW - CCW being a given by that time.

With 49 states having concealed carry laws on the books this makes Illinois, without such a law, to be the home of most of America's SECOND RATE CITIZENS.

Really, a state that doesn't allow self defense or the right to appear in court to defend yourself really isn't a state ~ it's a bandit's hideout.

Time to bring in the 82nd Airborne

Just thinking ~ since every county but Cook County (with Chicago) being the only place that WOULD NOT adopt Concealed Carry, that'd mean that the greater number of black people (and other minorities) in the state would be left without that vital civil right.

Sure would put the Liberal Courts on their pointy little heads wouldn't it!

I would be surprised if a Phil Crane-type Republican will ever be elected in Lake County again.

I lived in North Chicago for six years. If State’s Attorney Michael Waller doesn’t run for re-election, in 2012, whom should replace him? I hope that Rod Drobinski will win. He’s a conservative who was an assistant state’s attorney, and he was the chairman of the Waukegan Township Republican Organization. He’s pro-gun rights and pro-life.

In which town do you live? I live in Northfield. Whom should oppose State Senators Susan Garrett and Jeffery Schoenberg?
