If you ever watch C-Span of the US Senate during normal business hours, you first notice that there are only a half dozen senators there, even though the “senate is in session”. Just a few from each party, to make sure the other party doesn’t try to suddenly form a quorum and start passing laws, or they start making phone calls.

Typically, a dozen senators are on the road, either in the US or overseas. When the senate does assemble, it’s only for a few hours to do a bunch of votes, and then they scatter again.

Mind you, it’s half legitimate, because the senate floor is just for voting, nobody actually *works* there. For that, they go back to their offices, other senators offices, caucus or party meeting areas, or the infamous “senate cloakroom”, where they hammer out procedural matters before voting.

Since this is a federal holiday, it doesn’t matter if the senate is in session, because everything else is closed, even the post office. Which is a guarantee that nothing much is going to get done.

“I suspect the deficit will be higher on July 5th, than it is today.”

Or worse, another industry nationalized.

July 4th is nothing special for Democrats, in fact it was a bad day for communist-minded radicals.

Working so tirelessly to raise your taxes and take your freedom, they’re going to work right through the holiday.

Of course, libs (even the ones who work in our government) see no reason to celebrate the 4th of July anyway....

I hope Boner calls Reid and says “See ya’ when I get back from the holiday break, you dufus.” Of course, he won’t but I can dream.

The upside is there can be no recess appointments when they are in session.

If they are trying to get the House to stay in session the obvious answer to that is they already passed a budget (Ryan) for this year.

Every day they are not in session is a win for the People.

They are doing it to prevent “recess” appointments by Obastard. The House stayed in cession over Memorial Day and now it is the Senate’s turn.

Except in one somewhat important detail - when the Union Workers finally do produce some output, however reluctantly or fraudulently, it’s needed and useful.....

Good point.

And one of the saddest aspects of the sitiuation I described is that most of the workers were likable, well trained and competent except for the fact they had drunk the Kool Aid and were militantly hard core union.

I was actually told by the union supervisor that it was his job to find (read: create) work for as many union members as possible - not to be productive and make the company profitable.

But when they did apply themselves they could do good quality work. Still - their greatest skill was stretching the work to fill all the time available and more.

What a stupid charade.

The GOP (90%+ of them in Congress) is standing on the Ryan Plan. The Senate Democrats unanimous oppose it--as well the President's own Feb. budget submission. They have not advanced a plan of their own-- merely disjointed proposals.

If the Democrts have no recognizable plan to critique/ analize (Obama speeches don't count), how can one establish their actual negotiating position?

“Johnson vows to fight any attempt in Senate to proceed with Fourth of July recess

By Craig Gilbert of the Journal Sentinel

June 29, 2011 |(133) Comments

Freshman Sen. Ron Johnson said Wednesday he will try to block any move by the Senate to recess tomorrow in advance of the Fourth of July holiday, saying lawmakers should remain in session to work on the budget and spending issues.

Johnson’s comments come a day after he took to the Senate floor vowing to block regular business unless Democrats advance a budget plan.

The media is trying to give Reid credit instead LOL!

Nice play Johnson, even if the media turns it upside down. At least you’re making the media sweat...

Ramadan starts August 1st this year

Which is also why Obama has kept the press away during his August vacations to Martha's Vineyard.

I agree with Glenn. In fact, we should cut off their air conditioning as some have speculated that when air conditioning arrived in Washington it allowed these troublemakers to stay longer.

Hmm, I wonder how the senators are able to change their travel plans at the last minute during a holiday weekend. Bump the commoners out of their airplane seats, or do they arrive on (gasp!) private jets?

Honestly, I don't see any reason to celebrate the 4th of July since there is absolutely no resemblance at any level to the successes of that once great Country that once was on the north American continent called "The United States of America".

(I can see observing a wake...)
