I had a friend who lost his job. He applied for welfare. He couldn’t believe how easy it was. He told his ex-wife, they make this to easy. They were practically throwing money at him. I think it is to easy and becomes a disabling crutch, ruining more lives instead of actually helping them. I remember it use to be almost impossible to get disability. I remember a man who was truly sick. Him and his wife struggled, he had to apply 3x’s for disability and waited over 6 months before he was ever accepted. Now they help people become disabled.
Sorry to change the subject, but since we are talking about fraud, I thought that this might be an ok place to post this.
I’ve been getting phone calls from Anchorage, Alaska. I never answer calls from numbers that I don’t recognize, but this came at 5:00 AM and I was too startled to check the caller ID. Dead Air, then a woman said, Wrong Number.
I looked up the number on the computer and found that it is cell phone, so the ID of the caller is not available for free, but there was a craigslist ad with the same number. The ad said, New Crib - It’s all white, give me a call and gave the same number.
The Craigslist ad makes it sound like a crib for sale, but just a little off. It says,New crib goes from infant bed to toddler bed . Brand new just tool the box off . I don’t hv enough room in my house. It’s all white give me a call at 907-980-0913
I don’t think this is a crib for sale. I think that it is kiddie porn or worse. I maybe paranoid because a while back I had some guy calling me, thinking he was calling his whore and was sending me all kinds of text messages and everything, asking why I wouldn’t call him back. So finally, I did. You could hear his wife in the background, asking who was on the phone.

i agree, it’s terrible. i’ve heard the ex tell her friends, “you need to move to MI, i’m getting food stamps, cash, health insurance, home heating assistance, they helped me buy a car... and i’m STILL nailing [me] on child support”
have you heard anything about the lifetime 4 year cap the legislature has been talking about? that’d be a great start to weaning off te deadbeats.
I’m pretty sure a certain high school classmate of mine is in a similar situation. Also a certain liberal relative of mine, but at least she mooches off the family instead of off the government. Not that that’s much better.
Never heard of the 4 year cap before, but, they sure as heck need to do something. Michigan is WAY to generous. I would be generous for those that are truly disabled, elderly, mentally handicapped. But, if your able bodied, I would make it so it hurt so much, they’d want to get off welfare. Way to many dead beats. I see them in our little town. Same guys, having multiple illegitimate kids. Young able bodied but, hey, why work. The government supports the kids, supports the dead beat dads. All they have to do is go out and look for 2 jobs a week. My friend who owns a video store said one came in one day and asked if she had any openings. She said no, but, burger king does. He said, I don’t want to work at BK. I’m truly sick of this.
I have a friend who lost her job and went to get unemployment benefits. She listened as a man ahead of her got his benefits worked out. He was from Somalia, lived here a number of years and now had lost his job. He was asked if he had any kids. He said he did, but he was back in Somalia with his ex wife. The worker said, “you should put him on your application... you will get more benefits”. He said no, he was with his mom, being supported by her and her boyfriend. The worker insisted. He had to practically fight her to keep him off.

house approved it in may, senate approved a slightly stricter version about the same time. i’m waiting to see what happens. slick rick does support it and has said he’ll sign whichever one hits his desk.

I grew up in a mixed working class/welfare neighborhood. In the summer the kids from the welfare families went to summer camp while the working class kids tried to figure out what to do while their parents worked.
Even as a little kid that pissed me off. I think, at least in part, that was a reason why I became a conservative despite coming from a union home.

Dope dealers that are shot in the line of duty routinely apply for disability benefits for PTSD. They just get a ghetto doctor to certify that they can no longer work.
