A home invasion suspect is now in jail after deputies say he was shot by a 77-year-old man after breaking into a Pitt County home.
Deputies say around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday Reginald Watson, Jr. and another man broke down the front door of a home on River Road Estates Road. The victims say one of the men was armed with a revolver.
At some point, Albert Atkinston was able to get a handgun from another room. Deputies say once Watson saw Atkinston was armed he pointed his weapon at him. Several shots were then fired and deputies say the two intruders ran out the front door. Watson later showed up at Pitt County Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest and leg.
After being released from the hospital, the 20-year-old Watson was charged with first degree burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He's in the Pitt County jail on a $300,000 secured bond.

Greenville Police on Thursday said they are investigating a similar incident that occurred at 10:53 p.m. Wednesday at 4200 Brook Creek Lane.
The victims told police four men with covered hands and faces burst into the apartment and demanded cellphones, keys, cash, drugs and medications. Two men were armed with handguns. No injuries were reported.
Two more home invasion robberies were reported in the city earlier this week, according to Greenville police.
Late Monday, several suspects armed with handguns and short-barreled shotguns forced their way into an apartment at Pirates Place at 1517 Charles Blvd. and stole keys and a gaming system valued at $200.
Later that night across town, a similar robbery was reported at 2:33 a.m. Tuesday at 3370 Frontgate Drive. There, two men said they were sleeping in bedrooms when three men kicked in the door and robbed and shot them.
Both men suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are recovering.
Earlier this month, a couple were robbed in their home at 255 Beech St. in the Tar River area. Two gunmen forced their way in June 19 and stole a gaming system and clothing valued at $400.
On June 7, two men robbed a couple sitting on a second-floor porch at a Brownlea Drive apartment not far from the Beech Street incident.
The cases are under investigation.
I hope he is linked to them. What a menace to society. He obviously doesn’t give a crap about his life, let alone anyone else’s. 100yrs no parole.
“Albert Atkinson felt fortunate to have the gun tucked away in his closet, he said. It was the second armed invasion at the home within two years, his son said.”
“The Devil is busy going to and fro.
He has a Saviour to thank. Albert gets all the credit for taking action and knowing immediate danger had entered his life at that moment.
Thug got bested by a 77 yr. old? Pretty lame, ain’t he?
