Your reasoning is perhaps correct. On the other hand since the Chinese have a strong interest in oil, and most of the oil is in South Sudan and Libya, they might have a hand in what is happening regarding Sudan. Since the pipeline for South Sudan has to run through North Sudan, I can see all kinds of opportunity for diplomatic pressure by the Chinese.
