ABC round table on “The Immigration Debate”. Christiane makes comments how our immigration process isn’t working so well these days (referring to the illegal aliens). (Hey, Christiane, that’s not immigration - that’s called breaking the law.)
Jose on the panel - an illegal alien WaPo reporter who “came out” lately that he WAS illegal - he did it to bring out everything that’s wrong with the “immigration debate”.
Mel Martinez - our system hasn’t been working.
Michelle Reed - educators just want to make sure the next generation is educated (IOW, illegal or not, doesn’t matter)
George Will - big differences from the wave of immigration that occurred a century ago. Coming across the Atlantic served as a “severing process” from their past countries. Today’s wave is just walking across the border, going back and forth, sending money “home”. IOW, there is no severing process from previous country loyalties.
American economy of today can’t absorb these waves of unskilled labor.
Today’s immigrants (illegals, George!) are immigrating (breaking the law) into a welfare state.
Our LEGAL immigration policies are bringing in waves of unskilled labor. We bring in 1.2 million legal immigrants a year. 25% of the adults don't even have a high school degree. And it is far worse re illegal aliens.
