My wager is that he is returning because his control is in jeopardy, Caudillos do not change power gracefully. Fidel to Raul was somewhat smooth but Raul has always been a strong entity in Cuba since 1959, but Hugo's brother is much less and their Bolivarian Revolution is still new and was much on the rocks before the current resurgence in oil prices.

I wonder if Hugo is feeling the 'heat' in multiple senses?

My first thought also. Certain countries are so used to the “strong man”. A sign of weakness is deadly.

Although my guess is Chavez has guts in this regard (no pun intended!) and isn’t going gracefully. He’s been probably ignoring things for awhile.

Colon surgery is tough. We will get the pleasure of seeing him fade away to a wraith and then dying. And finally the total exasperation of watching millions of useful idiots crying over the rotten thug.

They’ll probably all be wearing black on the NothingButCommunists network.
