Teachers union endorses Obama

The nation's largest teachers union voted Monday to support President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election bid, marking one of the earliest union endorsements for the administration.

About 72 percent of the National Education Association's representative assembly voted to recommend the president's candidacy to its 3.2 million members, despite past disagreements between the Obama administration and many rank-and-file teachers who dislike parts of the president's reform agenda.

An estimated 5,414 members cast their support for the president while 2,102 members said no during the summer convention held in Chicago.

The NEA becomes one of the first labor unions to formally support the president in 2012.

"We have the same shared vision of America. (The president) has always talked about the importance of education from preschool to the graduate level," said NEA President Dennis Van Roekel. " I don't mind fighting on how to get to that shared vision. I believe out of that discussion may come ideas that neither one of us thought about and may be better."

It is the earliest endorsement ever made by the union, according to Van Roekel. Indeed, the Republican field of candidates has not winnowed to a single candidate to oppose the president.

The common, everyday teacher is just as much an enemy to us as the media or the DNC. There are good ones of course, but they are vastly outnumbered and keep their mouths shut.

The Dept of Ed., NEA, and teacher's unions are the big problem. However, you are right that today's new teachers are a huge problem because they have been brainwashed in our PC govt. schools.

Most teachers/unions are for Obama, abortion, gay rights, illegal immigration, tax the ‘rich’ schemes, Obamacare and endorsing the 100% election of RATS....teaching and education are far, far down their list.

“The Dept of Ed., NEA, and teacher’s unions are the big problem. However, you are right that today’s new teachers are a huge problem because they have been brainwashed in our PC govt. schools.”

Yes, EXACTLY. They’re brainwashed in our so-called “Schools of Education” at the major universities. These ‘schools’ need to be SHUT DOWN once and for all.

There are more than enough non-brainwashed Americans that would just LOVE to teach...particularly the well-educated ones that are out of work. There is no reason for teachers to spend more than, maybe a week or two, learning the profession. They certainly don’t need to spend 5 years at it.

Almost 39% said NO! That is surprising. Now if most of those 39% fill out the form refusing to allow withholding of the portion of dues used for political purposes, that would make an impact. It can be done-I’ve done it. Not pleasant but better than giving $ to elect that worthless ***.

And people wonder why our public schools are in decline! Is logic part of the curriculum any more?

I’ve just got to say-there are many fine Conservative teachers out there who despise Obama and their union thugs. They pay dues unwillingly but that can be mandated by the job. Reach out to the teachers you know, you might be surprised.

We’ve spent $2 trillion on education since federal aid began in 1965. The specified goals were to improve student achievement, eliminate or narrow the gap between upper-income and low-income students, and increase graduation rates from high school and college.
We have little or nothing to show for the taxpayers’ generosity.

“Most teachers/unions are for Obama, abortion, gay rights, illegal immigration, tax the ‘rich’ schemes, Obamacare and endorsing the 100% election of RATS....teaching and education are far, far down their list. “

Albert Shanker (former president of the American Federation of Teachers) famously said (pretty much):

“When the kids start paying dues, I’ll start representing their interests too.”

I taught for 4 years in the 70's and even then there was frustration at every turn. I was in my mid thirties when I earned my degree and was certified, and I was appalled at what the schools had become since my HS days. Four years was all I could take. The older teachers were just holding on; the coaches were interested in sports only, though they had to teach classes, too.

I did my best to instill interest and tell them the truth about real life. I loved the students, but even then the NEA was PC and teachers were forced to join the state union. I opted out of NEA union because I could see where it was going and what it was doing.

The national leaders are nearly all flaming leftists and have entered education expressly to carry out their agenda. Unfortunately, unsuspecting parents have allowed them to succeed.

Yea - it’s AMAZING that the vast majority of Americans STILL cannot figure it out.

Tony Snow once said that he thought Rush was embellishing on the subject of education...that was until his kids entered public school. Dr. Laura thought the same regarding Rush, although it may have been the gay lobby in her case.

Even our TOP COMMENTATORS are unable comprehend just what’s out there. I had it figured out in about a month, when I started college at ESU.

Of course they’re supporting Obama. The teacher’s union represents failure, specifically the failure of our public school system. So of course they’ll support other failures, like Obama.

Oh bullsh*t.

You want to keep your power, and this is the only homo that is willing to sell out the government in order to buy your damn votes.

The only difference between the Teacher Unions and child molesters is that the molesters haven’t figured out how to form a union.

So, with this endorsement, they throw their hand in with the devil.

Therefore, the Republicans and conservatives owe this union nothing, except payback.
