The nation's most extravagant display of July 4 fireworks was a triumphant celebration that turned solemn briefly to commemorate the 10-year mark since the September 11 attacks.
Tens of thousands of people from all over the world streamed to Manhattan's West Side to see the pyrotechnics show over the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey, featuring more than 40,000 shells exploding in choreographed, multicolored progression.
The show, sponsored by Macy's, paid tribute to the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty's début in New York Harbour. Fireworks blasted off from six barges along the river to heights of 1,000 feet.

Patriotic day: Caden and Lauren Lackey, both five, watch the LibertyFest Fourth of July parade in Edmond, Oklahoma
My girlfriend just said the same thing.
She’s wearing red, black and blue. What’s up with that?
On one of tonight’s network fireworks shows, she appeared in a healthy eating commercial, backed up by a lovely bowl of apples on the bookcase behind her (where we all store our apples).

Dude, that pic’s Americana!
“Shes wearing red, black and blue. Whats up with that?”

They can add that to the mean angry Michelle pics.
Ironic our favorite UK paper is leading with fantastic coverage of America’s July 4th celebration. Latent patriots?
“greeted more than 1,200 guests from a White House balcony”
I call pix of the 0bama(s) speaking from a WH BALCONY the “Evita collection.”
I have never heard of an American President addressing those who have come to the WH from a balcony, as though said President were ‘above it all’ or ‘better than you.’
We are all South American dictatorships now?
Michele Obama is the first first lady to know the meaning of “yo”.
Look at the underside of 0bama’s outstretched hand. His actual skin is quite light there.
The Brits are also honoring Ronald Reagan. I think they miss the old USA, when we were there for them.
LOL - that’s so funny.
We long for days past, don’t we?
Well, the future belongs to us no less than to those that think they own it.
Freedom is not a privilege, it’s a conviction.
Some excellent photos there. Thank you for posting this. Saw the Macy’s fireworks display which were spectacular.
