ORLANDO, Fla. -- The prosecutor in the Casey Anthony murder trial has decided to retire, sources told WFTV on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Jeff Ashton was part of the team of attorneys who tried to prove that Casey Anthony was guilty of killing her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony. However, the prosecution was not successful.

Casey was found not guilty Tuesday in a case that captivated the nation as it played out on national television from the moment the toddler was reported missing three years ago.

This verdict is a complete rebuke of not only the prosecution but the police. They too were shown to be inept and incapable of a thorough investigation.

They were told where the body was by the meter reader 3 or 4 times, yet felt more compeled to berate him for llaughing when the cop slipped and fell in the mud than search for the child’s body.

The alternate juror everyone has been interviewing all days said it was George Anthony and the police who were not credible in this case. And it bears mentioning that George Anthony is a retired homicide detective...

It will be interesting to hear what exactly turned the jury against the state in this case.

Right. And I kept saying Ashton was alienating the jury with all his stupid objections on technicalities. They thought he was covering up. It is also a rebuke of the Reptillian Media as usual. I was amazed. But they will prattle on as long as people need to have justification for their insanity. Like Mason said. I hope they learn a lesson. But I doubt it.

I wonder if the jury’s verdicts are as much a rebellion against their long incarceration (sequestration) as about the guilt or innocence of Anthony.

...Incidentally I don’t you can find any case where a smell is admitted as evidence. Thoughts and feeling don’t make evidence....

think about police making vehicle stops and smelling marijuana or alcohol...probable cause...evidence...its one of our senses.

Reasonable people would NEVER put duct tape around the head of their child having just died from an accident.

Exactly. Everyone's saying that without a "CSI smoking gun piece of evidence" the jury couldn't decide and the prosecution case failed. But the duct tape IS the smoking gun! There is NO NEED for duct tape on a dead body otherwise wrapped up and buried! Duct tape is only useful for someone who is ALIVE.

Bah.

yes, but it takes more than smell to charge - maybe a search warrant but smell won't take it any further.

Prosecutor Jeff Ashton appeared to me to be a pompous ass who thought he had all of the answers in this case. He did nothing to prove beyond a reasonable doubt to prove that Casey Anthony was guilty of capital murder. She most likely was involved BUT good old Prosecutor Jeff Ashton did not prove it.

I actually felt like smacking the son-of-a-bitch into the next county as he rocked, with his eyes closed, in his prosecution chair.

Does he need to retire> Absolutely! I'm sure his family loves him......

I do think something will happen a little ways down the road. Does Casey think her friends are just going to open their arms to her?”

This creature will always attract the detritus of life. She will never want for companionship bye she wil never know anything but profound loneliness.

He is showing honor in retiring, but I think he was dealt a very weak hand, as were the police.

That is what I think too. If the child died an accidental death by drowning or something else, there would be no reason to put duct tape around her head and face. If the child is missing and probably kidnapped, you call the police immediately. None of this makes sense and she can’t be tried again.
