Georgia attorney general releases 800-plus page report detailing cheating scandal at Atlanta public schools.
Teachers, school administrators and principals were directly involved with various efforts – including outright cheating and changing student answers – to increase the Atlanta school systems student performance scores. Some even held “erasure parties” on weekends to change answers.
The report stated that children were denied special-educational assistance because their falsely reported CRCT scores were too high, and during testing, teachers pointed to the correct answer while standing at students’ desks.According to the report, Parks Middle School had the most educators accused of cheating under the direction of then-principal Christopher Waller.
Investigators who led the probe were appointed by former Gov. Sonny Perdue. They found cheating in 44 of 56 schools they examined.
Deal said investigators also found that 178 teachers and principals cheated, and 82 of those confessed to misconduct.

The interesting part of this story will be in the numbers of how many of these teachers, principals, or superintendents get fired.

Unions don’t make improvements...they cheat EVERY SINGLE TAXPAYER.
Does anyone here know if the new Superintendent of the schools in Sumter, SC (new home of the 3rd Army) was from one of these schools, or involved in this mess? All I know about him is he is from the Atlanta school system and he brought two administrators with him.

If you have the staff names, you may be able to try a search in the PDF documents, but they made it difficult to search for names since the PDFs are just images and most of the text is not indexed.
Can you find out exactly which schools they came from? If so, the report does detail the name of every school checked and indicates if a problem was found. If they were a teacher or administrator at one of the schools that were cheating and they were employed there between 2001 and 2010, you can almost guarantee they knew something.
It is possible they tried to report it and were dismissed ... and as such left.
One of the teacher’s unions chiefs said the reason for the cheating was that standardized testing required by No Child Left Behind put undue pressure on teachers to teach to the test rather than “educate” the children.This pressure caused them to cheat. Therefore it is understandable why they cheated and standardized testing should be eliminated.
This is analagous to a burglar who steals ugly furniture from a home blaming his crime on the ugly furniture.The union official would argue if you want to eliminate the crime, do not buy ugly furniture.

When you create massive negative consequences for people if they fail a test, cheating is extremely likely. It’s so much easier than bringing scores up by teaching kids more effectively.
I’m no fan of No Child Left Behind simply for the fact the federal government should not be involved with sending money to local schools AT ALL.
That said, if the schools want the money, they need to be able to show results. In reality, the standard to pass - from what I understand - were reasonable or even pretty low.
What the schools want is cash handed to them without question and without any expectation of results. It’s the “intentions” that matter, not the results.
That duck won’t fly anymore.
If the schools did not cheat it would prove that their “students” are ineducable morons and that, as we all know, would be racist.
