Jacksonville, FL —

A Publix employee was attacked after complimenting a man with a Georgia Bulldogs T-shirt.

26-year-old James Wall said, “Hey, I like your shirt,” and that’s all it took for Ryan Keys to beat Wall outside of a Northside Publix.

The attack happened Friday at the Publix on Duval Station Road, but the details were not made public until recently.

Our news partner Channel 4 says Wall, the mentally disabled man was punched in the face so hard it knocked his two front teeth out; the teeth were found 10-12 feet from where he was laying.

Police described Keys as 6’4, 275 lbs.

Keys fled the scene in his brother’s car. Police later arrested the attacked at their home and was charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest.

He’s trying to be Phil Anselmo, formerly of Pantera.
I’m a metalhead, but Anselmo’s later work gives me the image of someone in East Texas minding a meth lab.

They can fix this poor kids teeth, but the psychological damage may end up being much more difficult to overcome. He did nothing wrong and was severely punished for it. That is difficult to reconcile for people with normal mental function. Hopefully he won't withdraw because of this.

Even kids have to have the concept of evil explained to them at some point.

Publix and Winn-Dixie both do a wonderful thing by employing some mentally slow folks as baggers and stockers

I bet anything that the regular customers know this employee by name. We have a Publix a few blocks away and we are in there at least 3 times a week. We know the baggers by name.

They also employ the nicest retired people too. These people stay with the company long term.

Publix is a classy company on many levels.

“Even kids ... concept of evil explained to them”

Perhaps you are right. I guess it depends on the mental age of the person. Recently, my five year old had her little “Hello Kitty” purse stolen from her at a store. One of those things... she set it down on the ground, forgot it a minute, and it was gone. I tried to explain that some people are bad, want to take things that aren’t theirs etc... We aren’t at the age of understanding yet. She still believes all people are like us... wouldn’t steal. Sad in a way that her innocence will be lost in the next couple of years with the understanding that there are really bad people but such is life and reality.

Five is quite old enough to understand the concept of “fallen man”. My four yr old gets it, she even has a the beginnings of a grasp on the age old “problem of evil” WRT God’s goodness and omnipotence.
Teach about the Fall, God’s law in the 10 commandments, and how none of us lives up to that standard.

I think you should try having family members, dress in a way that your daughter won’t recognize them, and have a few lessons about the world. I don’t mean that in a bad way, and it would probably hurt you more than your daughter, but it would probably be a very, very good education for her.

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” - Matthew 18:6

I think these words of Christ apply in this situation.

This paper obviously has an opening for an editor. :-)

Why would the police arrest the "attacked" at their (the police's) home?

Not even gonna start on the rest of that sentence.

Yep, and start a thread about 24 and the Soprano’s and see how many Freepers jump right in, lauding the value of those shows.

Did you see this post?

Not only does this animal belong in prison, he deserves to be beaten daily by his fellow inmates.
