'She is a good mother... we were right' Juror defends shock acquittal of Casey Anthony
Daily Mail ^ | July 6, 2011 | John Stevens

An alternate juror in the Casey Anthony trials has said that he believes that Anthony was a good mother and that two-year-old Caylee’s death was just a horrific accident.

The sensational acquittal of Casey Anthony sparked outrage across the U.S. as angry spectators compared the trial’s outcome to the infamous verdict in the OJ Simpson case.

But Russell Huekler, one of five alternate jurors who were present for all the testimony and were sequestered with the 12 other jurors, said he would have given the same verdict and is stunned by the public anger.

God was good to both of us. I was petrified when I turned around and she was gone.

This was before the Amber Alert, so if that little boy had not found her and called the Police. I would have to wait for days before they would start looking.

Thank God we now have the Amber Alert, but that is only used by Parents WHO CARE.

SO. go to this website: www.change.org.

This is a petition to have a new law, which will make it a FELONY for any parent of a missing child who does not REPORT it.

Saw the site today, from OKLA., it had at that time about 80K signers, from all over the U.S., that is just this morning count.

Sorry, I am not to hep on making it clickable here. Maybe someone else can do that for me. This is very important and needs to get out to everyone.

Casey would be sitting in Prison as we speak, if that had been in force before this trial.

"The results are the same but a “Not Guilty” verdict is the jury affirming that guilt wasn’t proven. The not guilty verdict actually is preferable in this case because she can be tried if again if new evidence surfaces."

Your information is wrong. A not guilty verdict is an aquittal. You cannot be tried again for the same offense after a not guilty verdict.

>>Many cases have been won with less evidence because other juries used this thing called COMMON SENSE.<<

I’m afraid in too many places, common sense is as dead as that little baby girl.

"Someone has got to put the fire out in this insanity. Mob rule can not be allowed to run rampant."

The insanity is thinking that disagreeing with the jury is somehow mob rule. We never gave up the right to disagree with a jury verdict, even if we accept that it's the final word.

I am amazed by how uninformed and silly much of the argument is coming from the posters defending this jury.

O'Reilly just ran the Huekler interview.

Hueckler didn't understand why evidence that was "right there" wasn't presented ~ and his reference was to "the accident" ~

Talk about a disconnect ~ fortunately none of our Freepers have shown one of this degree ~ but if EVIDENCE WASN'T PRESENTED then THEY DIDN'T SEE IT and THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT then........

And of course NO ONE KNEW about the "accident" evidence because none was presented because none existed.

That was merely assertion by lawyer Baez.

How long was Caylee missing? I fully admit to not being an authority on this murder. Children’s violent deaths enrage me so I tend to wait for the process to play out before I engage my emotions.

Believe me I understand your rage and wanting someone to pay. But that does not substitute for proof.

So now, according to you we have no ccause of death. On top of that there no credible motive was established. On top of that none of the mother’s DNA shows up on any of the evidence—to include the duct tape covering the little girls and nose and mouth.

Aside from some vague internet queries by someone, we don’t know who, about broken necks and such there is no evidence tying the mother or them to the girl’s death. And the little girl did not die from any of those. Even in the absense of tissue, the bones could have remained in tact for years. A coroner would have seen a broken neck if there was one.

In short, at the end of the day, there was no evidence tying a pathologically lying mother to her dauighter’s death. The fact that it took her two days, two weeks or two monthd to report her daughter missing does not prove she murdered her. An alternative explanation is that the lying mother was simply trying to protect herself from a child neglect charge. She was divorced, no? She had sole custody of the child. A child neglect conviction would almost certainly take sole custody away from. Hence, the panic which drove her to do and say stupid things.

One thing you may not be aware of with regard to the law. Each law has specific points of proof that must be satisfied for conviction. Jurers are given that info. It’s like a checklist. If all the boxes are not checked the accused must be found not guilty. Jurers do not just go into the jury room and find an accused guilty or not guilty based on emotion. There are rules they must follow.

Of course, no system is perfect. I give you the OJ Simpson case. Despite the evidence of his guilt the jury deliberately refused to check all the boxes and found him not guilty. The prosecutor in that case bungled the case sufficiently to allow OJ to literally get away with murder. It may be the prosecutor in the Anthony case did the same thing. But right now I believe Mrs. Anthony did not kill her child. I believe she did and said some incredibly stupid to cover up the girl’s accidental drowning.

While I believe that Casey had more to do with Caylee’s death than the jury believed, I blame first the prosecution. You simply do not go balls to the wall on 1st Degree Murder without a solid case. And Laci Peterson has nothing to do with this. Witnesses put Scott in the boat that day (Where’s Howlin when ya need her?). No witnesses, no DNA, and a boatload of circumstantial evidence that was not logically explained by the prosecution. This left truck-sized holes that Baez was able to just shred apart. Did Casey kill her daughter? Probably did in my opinion. The fact that not a one of the 12 even held out for a mistrial or to pull a reverse 12 Angry Men tactic tells me that given their charge by the judge, they all had reasonable doubt. Yeah, I think Casey got away with murder as did O.J. But that is the way the system works. Presumption of innocence and reasonable doubt. The prosecution could have gotten a conviction for manslaughter had they set the standard there - maybe even Casey would’ve plead out for it. This being a capital case is quite different from a jurist’s point of view. Maybe they were spoiled by watching too much CSI and seeing how much evidence there should have been... who knows. Now Casey gets judged in the court of public opinion which will not be anywhere near as merciful as her jury was.

“How long was Caylee missing?”

Caylee was missing for 31 days, while Casey told the family that she had been taken by a (turns out, nonexistent) nanny named (get this)...”Zanny.”

During this time, Casey made NO calls to the police. When pressed by the family that Casey needed to get Caylee back, Casey assured them that she was taking care of it.

All lies, of course.

No problem - I understand what you are trying to do. People’s emotions are running high and there is considerable outrage out there. But this ain’t quite O.J. either. That time there was a ton of forensic evidence. The jury just ignored it all.

There were more than half a dozen charges. She was found guilty on four of them. There was more than one choice on the murder part.

What you must remember is she was a mother and she had lawful custody of her daughter. Then one day the daughter disappeared and she waited 31 days to report her missing. In the meantime she is seen partying and getting tattoos. All the while she knew her daughter was missing.

Prove what?

That jury even refused to convict her of child abuse ~ which is what happens to your kid when she goes missing and you don't report her missing to someone.

The jury imagined something ~
