If they are talking about “loopholes” more power to them. If they are talking about legitimate deductions then the pitchforks are coming out.

Kyl has stated the report from Reuters in wrong and will be issuing a statement.

Why not just correct and state what it is instead of issuing some statement for later?

I am hearing the tax increases are “loopholes” being removed and it is a deal that includes corp tax rate reductions.

If done correctly this would be a good thing.... WE ALL KNOW only big well connected companies get the tax breaks that bring rates down to 10%, 5% or 0%, while job creating companies get the shaft. A 15% to 20% corporate rate with closed loophole would help with the unsettle business climate in these United States.

Yep, I just heard Levin read an update from Kyl’s office - general politician-speak with little or no details about exactly what he meant.

He supposedly said that if there is an existing fee that it may be raised to keep up with the times (I paraphrased that). What fee is he talking about?

Are we being double dipped? If so, then it’s a tax (or tax increase if the fee already exists). Example: Some of our Federal Income tax goes to the National Park Service but then are there “fees” at the Parks that we get double dipped on? I don’t know, I’m just asking.

The reason for my question is that I don’t trust them .... any of them.

Reuters just quoted Kyl’s Senate Floor Speech. Kyl gave a speech for an audience of political moderates; trying to “better the PR” for Republicans, and it has backfired. Kyl was have a pissing contest with Democrats by saying, “we can raise fees, too”.

I wouldn’t have a problem with some of those wall street types that pay no income taxes at all because they classify all the money they make as something other than income. Especially the ones that are supporting BO.

If they are actually talking about one part being the removal of a certain level of business tax exemptions (crony capitalism and leftist economic tinkering), in return for a second part, of a corresponding overall lowering of business income tax rates, providing a net zero-difference in business taxes, ALONG WITH major-major spending reductions, and Reuters wants to refer to the first part alone as representing an overall tax “increase”, let them.

Lower, flatter taxes with fewer (would be best if none) exceptions and exemptions would be a Conservative way to go. People should not get hung up on one-half of what might be a good whole.

I said MIGHT.

The devil is in the details.

The only virtues of user fees as opposed to taxes is that 1) they often are optional, ie you can work around them, and 2) they are targeted so they don't get skimmed off by the corrupt bureaucrats for their personal enrichment, the way tax dollars are.

You can’t increase tax revenues when you are on the right hand side of the Laffer Curve.
