Peshawar 8 July, 2011 The Political Authorities of Orakzai agency has completed the construction of sixteen flood protection walls to help secure a large population of villages from the dangers of future floods as the last year flooding had caused damage to the homes and lands of the local people. A drinking water supply and street pavement schemes in various villages have also been completed to improve the general sanitation of the area. According to the Report issued here by FATA Secretariat stated that Government has constructed 1100 feet long 13 flood protection walls in Sra Khuna, Darwazai and Dalai villages while 111 meter long three protection walls in Khair Ali said village. These projects were identified by the community itself in a meeting held with local Political Administration because these villages had been hit by the annual torrential rains.

These villages are rich in charcoal mines which is the major source of revenue for the political administration. With the construction of these walls, some sixteen charcoal mines will protect almost 2000 workers and locals from annual flooding and the lives and properties of the people will be safe guard, resulting in up gradation of the economic and social living standards of their community.

Government has also paved 976 meter long streets along with 289 meters long drains in Noor Kaka village. The streets in the village were unpaved, and they become impassable, especially during the rainy season. Therefore the government initiated this project on a priority basis.

A long-felt desire of the people of village Geon Feroz khel became a reality with the inauguration of a safe drinking water supply scheme in their community. Government has constructed three water tanks, one pump house, and 104 meter deep tube well and three water points. A 976 meter long water distribution pipeline and one submersible machine have been installed. The availability of safe drinking water would decrease the water borne diseases in the community, particularly among women and children. These development projects in Orakzai Agency will benefit almost 5000 community members.
