BREAKING -- The unemployment rate in June rose to 9.2 percent, the government reported Friday morning, as the economy added just 18,000.

President Obama will speak about the new data in the Rose Garden at 10:35 a.m., the White House says.

The Clinton recession began at the very end of his term. The economy was in negative growth for his last quarter and the next 2....3 straight quarters of negative growth, and that’s the definition of recession.

Bush pulled us out of it despite 9/11 and Tommy Daschle, both of which had similar effects on the economy.
