Perry calling Iowa activists as potential donors convene
Politico ^ | JONATHAN MARTIN & MAGGIE HABERMAN

Rick Perry has started calling Iowa Republicans and a former RNC finance chairman is helping to convene a meeting of national donors later this month in Austin to discuss financing a potential 2012 campaign — signs that the Texas governor and his allies are stepping up their exploratory efforts.

The developments come as Perry is being watched by a string of donors, early-state voters and elites who say they're disenchanted, and in search of a stronger candidate. Continue Reading

Republican activist Joni Scotter told POLITICO she got a surprise phone call this afternoon from Perry, asking about the political landscape as it relates to him.

"It was just a surprise," said Scotter, of Marion, who's well-known for her frequent appearances at Iowa Republican events and a coveted worker bee on presidential campaigns. She said she didn't know how Perry got her number.

"He sounded great and just asked if he should run," she said. "And I said, of course." She said he said he hadn't made up his mind.

Scotter declined to reveal more about the roughly 20-minute conversation, saying, "I feel like I am violating a trust...it is an honor that he even considered calling. It was a wonderful conversation."

Dave Carney, Perry’s top strategist, confirmed that the governor had been reaching out to Republican caucus-goers.

“He is calling some folks, returning some calls and listening to what folks have to say,” said Carney.

Asked if it was activists or elected officials, he described the calls as going to “a mix of folks.”

At the same time, Peter Terpulek, a top bundler who President Bush appointed as ambassador to Luxembourg, has begun planning a gathering of some of the party’s top uncommitted donors for later this month in the Texas capital.

Would it be really out of the box for Palin to come out and announce Perry her running mate even prior to winning nomination? or is there some grand rule.

Reagan tried that with PA Sen. Richard Schweicker in '76 in an attempt to sway some Ford-supporting but legally uncommitted delegates. It didn't work, and is unlikely to happen except in more desperate scenarios.

The complaints re: RINO Perry and Backstabber Rove are NOT OUTDATED.

NO SALE FOR RINOS like Gardasil-FOR-YOU-Perry.

Most of us will either go third party or stay home. No more Texas RINOs out of the Bush mold.

I'm wondering how you presume to speak for all the Palin supporters in case she decides not to run.

I doubt a lot of people will "stay home" considering the country's survival as a republic might actually hang in the balance on this election.

Also, what "third party"? Has Ron Paul declared a third party run? Has Ross Perot returned?

One longtime observer of Lone Star politics described the Bushes’ disdain of Perry as “visceral,” and it is not too terribly hard to see why. The guy that NPR executives and the New York Times and your average Subaru-driving Whole Foods shopper were afraid George W. Bush was? Rick Perry is that guy.

I have to admit, there's an intractable visceral appeal in that.

And no one gets elected without the say so of Karl Rove

Looks like somebody already did, when Perry was elected while Rove and the Bushes backed Kay Bailey H.

The bottom line is that Perry is yet another creature of Rove, who has his tentacles everywhere and is pulling all the GOP-E levers right now.

Using this arguement, one could make the claim (though it would be equally untrue) that Palin is a Rove plant.

How ?

Karl Rove worked for the McCain campaign, Karl Rove advised John McCain, John McCain picked Sarah Palin, Karl Rove worked hard and diligently to help get the McCain/Palin ticket elected, thus he worked to make Palin the V.P. He even did strategy sessions for her, and assigned operatives to work with her.

And everything said up above, while true, would still be misleading, because, come hell or highwater, Governor Palin isn't a Rove plant (he actually wanted Romney over Palin, and still wants Romney). Rove, didn't have a choice regarding Palin, and was doing his job.

Rove did however, work pretty darn hard to unseat Perry in 2010, thats more work then he ever did against Palin in Alaska. Perry, like Palin, is not a part of the Rove camp, I would go so far as to say that I think Palin endorsed Perry, not so much to spite Rove, but at least to stick a little bit of a thumb in his eye.

You need glasses, a hearing aid and some better information, if you think Perry is Bush.

I doubt Karl Rove’s “stock” is going for much these days.

His “contributor” status at Fox News is paying his light bill.

RINO Perry ...... Diogenesis

MAY 31, 2011 .... Palin plugs Perry: "I really like him" .... Unprompted, Sarah Palin brought up Rick Perry's name yesterday as a strong presidential candidate. "I think he would be a fine candidate.... we have a lot in common. I really like him.

Governor Sarah Palin's Endorsement of Governor Rick Perry

"That's why I am supporting Governor Rick Perry for re-election. He does what is right regardless of whether it is popular. He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks to his guns – and you know how I feel about guns!" ...... Sarah Palin, January 17, 2009

As a Texan this whole Perry thing is weird. He is okay but President?

Who would you prefer as an alternative?

The cute woman with ZERO executive experience, who has been in Congress since only 2007, who would guarantee the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama?

The cute woman that is wildly popular on FR but who 65% of all voters have stated that they will definitely NOT vote for, who has not declared, that supports Perry and would guarantee the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama if she actually ran?

The pizza chain CEO with the Politically Correct skin color but with ZERO Government experience, who has never won a single election in his life, who would guarantee the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama?

"The Donald", who would guarantee the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama?

Ron Paul, who would guarantee the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama?

RINO Romney that may very well defeat Barack Hussein Obama but ..... well, .... is RINO Romney?

I'm not from Texas and you Texans know how many fleas and how much mange that Perry dog has but, you know what?

He is the only dog, besides RINO Romney, that can actually DEFEAT Obama in the 2012 dogfight.

If a better dog that can actually WIN the 2012 dogfight comes along, lets us know.

Until then, Perry might not be the prettiest dog in the 2012 dogfight but, right now, he is the only conservative dog that can actually WIN.

"I think ultimately Rick Perry is a candidate who secures Haley Barbour's money with Sarah Palin's endorsement," he said."

Problem is that even IF this bit of wishful thinking came true, the widespread support for Sarah is NOT automatically transferable to Perry. Most of us will either go third party or stay home. ..... Virginia Ridgerunner

Well, go right ahead and do your part to try to help reelect Obama the Commie, Virginia Ridgerunner.

If Perry is nominated, he will defeat Obama with the support of the majority of America because the majority of America has a hell of a lot more common sense than you do.
