We’re losing our freedom, they are gaining theirs.

Do you really think that they will maintain their freedom unless someone guarantees it?

Congrats to South Sudan!
This makes yet another country I’ve been to that wasn’t a country when I was there!
I hope they can keep it together. There is a lot of tribal infighting in this area.

I’m happy for them. I just wish that they had chosen a different name.

I would like to propose a Failure Pool”. How many weeks, months, years or even decades before South Sudan is in the same miserable shape as the rest of sub-Sarahan Africa. That little area of the world is rife with failed states. The only successful one is .......................... Wait it will come to me.............................. Oh yeah it is ....................................... Hep me someone, please hep me.

There was a time when the ONLY voices crying out on behalf of the Southern Sudanese people were some early Freepers, Richard Cohen, a pioneering African-American lobbyist, and a classroom made up of mostly little girls.
Now they are a nation.

Glaringly absent in all the "new nation" hooplah is the fact that the Moslem north Sudan invaded Christian south Sudan, razed villages, killed men, and made slaves of women and children. THAT's what all the fighting was about: The Moslems (pork be upon them) wanted to subjugate all the Christians, and they fought back as best they could.
Glad to see they have their own country, not like Obama is going to help them.

Do you really think that they will maintain their freedom unless someone guarantees it? Of course not. I never intimated anything of the sort.
I am just struck by the irony of the situation.
Our politicians (government) show so much concern for "spreading democracy" around the world while they work so hard at home to erode our freedoms and extend their control over every aspect of our lives.
They see the tyranny of other government figuress but are blind to their own.
