"Most important item is to match spending cuts dollar-for-dollar w debt ceiling increase. "

The most important factor in all of this is to match spending cuts dollar-for-dollar w debt ceiling increase AND YEAR FOR YEAR. No debt ceiling increase THIS year for TEN YEAR FUTURE spending cuts.

By the time I had finished your first paragraph, I said to myself, here is someone that thinks like me. Then I saw who posted it. Maybe that’s why I love FR so much!

“Boehner is one person. The Senate and President are controlled by Democrats. In order to stop the drunken spending, Republicans need to be in control of all three branches. We are not there.”

Well put. But seeing these temper tantrums, I am doubting we will get there.

B/S. The congress controls the spending. They can bring it to a halt immediately. I say stop the spending and let the constitutional crisis begin. Let the people decide on election day whether they wish to live on their knees as slaves to the Marxist bastards or stand and fight for the constitution and liberty as free men!

Yeah, except we’ve been taking “small” victories for 40 plus years and look where it’s gotten us.

“2T is what Boehner has been going for all along.”
Then I guess he wasn’t being serious from the getgo, was he.

You misunderstand.

He killed the President’s cynical plan to extend the cuts over 12 years whereby in reality the tax increases would be now and the budget cuts would never happen.

They have to raise the debt ceiling. There isn’t a single proposal, by the democrats, the republicans, the tea party, or any credible conservative, that immediately cuts enough spending so that we don’t spend over the current debt limit.

______________________

With respect, that was my point there are NO proposals that immediately cuts spending! Why because there are too many sacred cows that either party want slaughtered. While responsible adults have lowered their debt levels in the private sector is it really is too much to ask the so called little r’s and demoncrats to do the same?

Boehner actually is avoiding Obama’s bait & switch offer.

Which some here have somehow interpreted as "folding." My big fear is that he was going to accept the deal with its massive tax increases. Instead Boehner has REJECTED them.

“You can’t just stomp around when things don’t go 100% your way, you’ve got to dig in for the long haul.”

If things had gone even 5% my way the past decades, maybe I could consider your strategy. The problem is that that virtually nothing in this state (Illinois) or the nation has stopped or even slightly slowed the socialism and attack on real Americans in decades with either party in power.

It is time for a new political party. Maybe their demise, at the hands of their own offspring (the self-responsible, motivated, successful, law-abiding, family-oriented, informed, US-loving ones) will get them the message. The Illinois and national GOP can take their deals with the Rats, big tent, and cowardice and shove it.

Well, assuming that you're not any more to the right than the Tea Party, I've got some good news for you. At our local Republican Party Executive Committee meeting this year the Tea Party got 35% of the vote to take over the committee this year. That's much better than 5%, and two years from now when we have elections we might just take over.

But it's not going to happen if conservatives don't stay engaged. Even Teddy Roosevelt couldn't successfully start a new Party, and his attempt gave us Woodrow Wilson.

If you want to change the world then fight like HELL in the primaries, and then blindly vote (R) in the general elections. Then, start fighting all over again!

If Boehner wasn't serious, Obama wouldn't be all hot and bothered.

Boehner is definitely much more serious than other GOP negotiators in the past...he's not budging on NOT raising taxes which is quite the refreshing change.

You guys keep harping about boehner not raising taxes as though nothing else matters. Not raising taxes is good, but not raising the debt ceiling is also a musthave.

It's not that nothing else matters but in this debt ceiling fight, not raising taxes is the biggie.

Boehner's getting cuts to the tune of the debt hike and the Dems hate it. They thought they could convince him along the way to hike taxes as well as CUT but he's holding the line.

This is an extremely important ideological fight because the GOP has caved on the last minute in negotiations just like this. Think George Bush Sr. who agreed to tax hikes in a very similar situation to this.

If Boehner can pull off cuts with NO corresponding tax hike to assuage the Dems he will have momentum going into budget talks (Ryan plan) which are still ahead.
