After going in person to the moon several times, what do you do for a sequel? Mars?
I say, send a dog or cat to Mars before you try to send a man.

Why, their going to spend all that freed up time cataloging all those advances the muzzies have helped NASA make since it's inception. PLENTY for them to do.

Apollo 16 had nothing to do with the shuttle.
I mean, it’s great that he had a great Discovery from the Atlantis Ocean, and his study of NASA is an admirable Endeavor of an Enterprise-ing young man, for which a Challenger will not be found. Hail Columbia!

Durham teen discovers piece of shuttle history Are these reporters really so brain dead as not knowing that Apollo 16 was not a space shuttle?
We've become a nation of utter morons.

Yeah, the title is screwed up. Leave it to the media to think that Apollo 16 was a space shuttle.

Finders keepers. Law of the sea. Salvage rights and all that.
I would have kept it.

Realistically what's NASA going to do with it? Gathering dust in some closet.
Let the kid have his prize.

Probably not legally arguable. If property of the government, such as a few German tanks found in a river were still property of the German government (note, the Third Reich built the tanks, not the present German govt), then pieces of the space craft would also be property of the government.

I can’t figure out what part on the first stage would specifically be marked as Apollo 16. Doesn’t sound right. If anything it would be marked as Saturn V if it really is part of the first stage. I’m wondering if maybe it is part of the escape tower shroud.

It was a disposable part of the aircraft. The govt. never intended to recover it. No different than you throwing something away, I find it and decide to keep it for myself.

I’m 47 and most of my co-workers are either 10 years younger or are older women that could care less when I talk about the Apollo flights. I was a kid and found them utterly fascinating. Even the Skylab missions were pretty heady stuff for me.
The Shuttles. Apollo. Mercury. They all went up in the sky with a big roar and ton of smoke. Yeah, for a lot of reporters, the Shuttle and everything that lead up to it are all one in the same thing.
