It's now easier to get medical marijuana than a Starbucks coffee in Denver

There are now more medical marijuana dispensaries in the Mile High city than there are branches of Starbucks.

In Denver, Colorado, there are nearly 300 locations where patients with a prescription from a doctor can legally buy medical marijuana, reports The Daily.

New patients are often treated to a free joint, and have their choice of an ever growing array of strains of marijuana, many with colourful names like Golden Goat and Romulan Cotton Candy.

Besides Colorado, 15 other states plus Washington, D.C., have laws that allow use of medical marijuana.

This does not trump federal law, but the Obama administration has said it is not interested in prosecuting state-licensed dispensaries or those who use the drug as prescribed by a doctor.

During the Bush administration, federal agents did often clash with the medical marijuana industry in states where it had been locally legalized, and many shops were raided.

Westword editor Patricia Calhoun told The Daily: 'It’s a fun new writing area, and if your publication prides itself on doing strong cultural coverage of art, theatre and food, then why not do pot, too?'

Mr Breathes is said to be an experienced journalist, and he writes on all aspects of the Denver medical marijuana scene, including detailed reviews of specific strains for sale, the shops and relevant political and social issues.

There might be more Starbucks than pot dispensaries if Starbucks didn’t charge stupid amounts of money for a mediocre cup of coffee.

The real question is are there more McDonald’s in Denver than pot dispensaries and when will Mooseshell begin a coordinated SWAT crackdown on those purveyors of cardiac attacking belly bombs?

Speaking as a physician and one who has to pick up the mess these morons cause by prescribing medical marijuana to patients who clearly have no medical condition meriting it, this monsense frustrates me.

More psychotic, brain-dead losers developing panic attacks... lovely.

Marijuana is not the benign substance it’s made out to be. My guess is that inpatient psychiatric hospitalization related to MJ use will continue to rise.

What a monumentally idiotic headline. Last time I checked you didn't need a prescription from a physician to get coffee at Starbuck's.

Starbucks doesn’t require a license to buy; pot does.

Headline is a joke and a lie.

Only extreme Libertarians would view operators of pot dispensaries as “small business people.” Just because something is/was legal (think of slavery) doesn’t make it right. The people using the pot are mostly the ones dependent on tax dollars.

Sears used to deliver marijuana and cocaine before the so-called war on drugs.
This nation thrived in the 1800s without drug control.
Prohibition is just the foundation for government sector jobs and the new police state.
No serious thinker believes this war is paying off, or making us safer.
Just like many other issues, the only thing worse than the problem is the government solution.

99% of statistics are made up on the spot and that's not one of the 1%.

“99% of statistics are made up on the spot and that’s not one of the 1%”

Neither is that!

“Now if I could just get a joint and a coffee at the same place.”

Why, I do believe you must be thinking of Amsterdam.

Croakers have killed many. Pot has killed few.

How does the song go?

"I wouldn't marry a doctor, I'll tell you the reason why: He rides all over the country and makes the people die."

The people using the pot are mostly the ones dependent on tax dollars. Source for that claim.

I did not say is was right or wrong, I said these people are small business owners and they are not on the public dole.

There are other things besides McDonald's to satisfy that marijuana munchies madness. Mooseshell will have to use a diverse strategy to extend tentacles far and wide and prevent pot bellied bulging from toppling Colorado from it's top rank in low bmi population.

“This does not trump federal law, but the Obama administration has said it is not interested in prosecuting state-licensed dispensaries or those who use the drug as prescribed by a doctor. “

Yep. That’s the only reason this travesty is occurring in Colorado. The medical marijuana law was on the books for months in Colorado and nothing was happening until Obama announced he wouldn’t enforce the Federal laws. And that’s when the pot shops in Colorado exploded. Because no one had to fear Federal prosecution any longer.

Thanks a lot Obama. I thought you swore to uphold the Federal laws. I guess you lied when you took that oath, like you’ve lied about everything else, probably including where you were actually born.

Hundreds of thousands of people now flaunt Federal law in Colorado with impunity. It’s pretty evident that laws mean nothing any more in this country. It’s just one of the many ways Obama has gone about in deliberately destroying the United States: changing a nation based on law into a nation of lawbreakers.

The insidious thing about MickeyD’s is that even non-pot smokers by the scores go there every day. Don’t let the thin air trick your eyes. We’re a lot fatter than we look up here!

I live in Denver and I’m also surrounded by associates who play that little ‘medical marijuana’ game. They’re quite open about the whole facade. Granted, I still think it’s probably safer than my “beer” drug - but there’s one thing that the dope heads - who I know - all share in common: they are the most long-winded and self-important yet inconsequential liberal bores you will ever meet. Yikes!

I think you missed the part where he, through a surrogate at the DoJ, went back on that promise. The dispensaries are nervous and the illegals are ready to come back and fill the vacuum when the Feds get cracking again.

It’s telling how you’ve already put the word “medical” in “quotes”!

“Exactly!”
