Taxes Upon Taxes Upon . . . [Obama wants $1 trillion in taxes on top of what he's already signed]
Wall Street Journal ^

Taxes Upon Taxes Upon . . . Obama wants $1 trillion in taxes on top of what he's already signed.

So the fondest Washington hopes for a grand debt-limit deal have broken down over taxes. House Speaker John Boehner said late Saturday that he couldn't move ahead with a $4 trillion deal because President Obama was insisting on a $1 trillion tax increase, and the White House quickly denounced House Republicans for scuttling debt reduction and preventing "the very wealthiest and special interests from paying their fair share."

How dare Republicans not agree to break their campaign promises and raise taxes when the jobless rate is 9.2% and President Obama's economic recovery is in jeopardy?

We think Mr. Boehner is making the sensible choice. No one wants to reform the tax code more than we do, but passing a $1 trillion tax increase first on the promise of tax reform later is a political trap. If the President were really sincere about reform and a willingness to keep the top tax rate at or below 35%, he'd negotiate that at the same time he does a debt deal. Mr. Boehner will have a hard enough time getting any debt-limit increase through the House, much less one that raises tax rates.

Keep in mind that Mr. Obama has already signed the largest tax increase since 1993. While everyone focuses on the Bush tax rates that expire after 2012, other tax increases are already set to hit the economy thanks to the 2010 Affordable Care Act. As a refresher, here's a non-exhaustive list of ObamaCare's tax increases:

The top 1% already pay a third of all taxes. The top 10% pay 60% of all taxes. You can see the cow’s ribs yet Obama Obama wants to try to milk the poor old beast again. He is going to kill the productive engine of the economy and most of the poor and middle class are OK with it (until tax revenues drop and they don’t get their government freebies anymore).

They can start by taxing Foundations with 100,000,000 and over in assets.

Shunting all one’s billions into Foundations to avoid taxes is just a gravy train for the billionaires to dip into to pay for their own personal politicians.

There should be no tax-free foundations.....Every one of them should pay something, even if it’s a little as 5%..............

Mr. Boehner has a mandate for spending cuts and repealing the Affordable Care Act.

We won. Don't ignore it.

...the White House quickly denounced House Republicans for scuttling debt reduction and preventing "the very wealthiest and special interests from paying their fair share."

Why in the hell can't the GOP get in front of the public and simply say: "The 'rich' are the people who drive this economic engine and we need them to invest more in order to create jobs. Saying they don't pay their fair share is simply a lie, and the White House knows it. The richest 10% of the people in the US currently pay 66% of all federal income taxes. In contrast, the lowest 40% pay no federal income taxes. If the Democrats truly wants a level playing field, then they must cut taxes on the rich."

The trillion is for his "constituency" as the US economy tanks. The taxes are now, the "cuts" he mentions are for after he leaves office...?

Whatta deal!
What kind of Republican could turn this down?

Obama still has not caught on to the fact that the truly rich people’s money he so covets don’t pay (much) income tax. Working people pay income tax.

Boehner is playing this right so far. Truth is, the Executive can solve the debt limit problem with no action from congress. I do wish Boehner and Pubs in general would do more to frame the debate.

Foundations?

That, and how about all Americans pay something...their fair share, we might call it. No more free rides...everyone has skin in the game...
And all those other cliches that apply.

I know I am just a simple minded fool, but the best thing that could happen would be nothing. If the debt limit is not lifted then we acquire no more debt. The constitution requires that we pay our debt so the fat cats of spending will just need to figure it friggen out. If I was in debt, my balanced approach would not include a demanded pay raise at work, would it?

I agree with that. But I’m sure Obama would rather tax the likes of me before he’d ever go after his friends.

It’s amazing that the rats can still get away with pretending to be the party of the little guy.

I don't understand why Boehner can't bring Urkel's budget up for a vote.

Let's see how many RATS vote for it.

” The constitution requires that we pay our debt so the fat cats of spending will just need to figure it friggen out “

In a perfect world, yes...

But the state of politics in today’s Land-of-the-free-home-of-the-brave, instead of starting the ‘cuts’ with EPA, OSHA, EEOC, Depts of Ed., Labor, Commerce, etc. (IOW, the bureaucracies whose activities actively *harm* the economy in general), our ‘Betters’ will go right to the cuts that cause the most amount of pain to the most amount of little people, in order to gain perceived political advantage....

Gingrich: ‘This Is the Obama Depression’
Sunday, July 10, 2011 12:45 PM

By: Hiram Reisner

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Sunday labeled the dismal economic situation in the United States as the “Obama depression,” just days after a grim jobs report and amid continued signs that negotiations on a comprehensive federal debt deal are faltering.

urkel and moochele have become accustomed to being subsidized and carried along by uber rich people.

They are wined and dined and transported (private jet) and housed and fed and entertained by obsequious uber rich liberals, mostly white. moochelles choice of family vacation last summer showed her sense of entitlement to be part of the billionaire set, renting almost an entire 5 star resort for 30 of her closest friends, demanding an invite to lunch for her and her child with the Queen of Spain.

The obama family royalty checks roll in to give his family a million dollar annual income, for his awful books someone else wrote, thanks to massive purchases and “advances” put up by his rich mentors. Talk about “unearned income”

Is there any wonder he figures there are so many rich folks who have lots of extra money to spend on taxes?

He scorns people who resist a 39% federal tax rate as unpatriotic and preaches about sacrifice, while paying a 26% tax rate on the obama family stash. moochelle tells folks a GOP $600 tax credit won't even buy a good pair of earrings. This “National Lampoon's White House Vacation” bunch has singly driven up world prices for lobster and wagyu beef.

when was the last time urkel and moochelle had any social interaction with, any meaningful exposure to, a 2 wage earner family making $250K? I bet barry and moochelle think families like that are carrying home $20K a month in cash.
